Born on Jan. 15, 1928, in Monroe Twp, Juniata Co, she is a daughter o f the late Meade S. and Alvesta (Barner) Graybill. Her husband of mor e than 38 years, James V. Wilson, whom she married on Sept. 6, 1954, p eceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1992. Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Booker and husband Larry, of Miffli town; one sister, Beverly Sausman and husband Edward, of Mifflintown ; one brother Herbert Graybill, and wife Barbara, of Tulsa, Okla.; on e sister-in-law, Eleanor Graybill, of Harrisburg; and she leaves behin d several nieces and nephews. One brother, Richard Graybill, preceded her in death. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlis terville, where she served as an elder and member of the Presbyteria Women, a past president of the Juniata County Republican Women, an d was a member of the Congressional Committee, a member of the PA Farm er's Women's Association, and volunteered for the Juniata Meals on Whe els. In earlier life, she was the owner and operator of Fleda's Beauty Shop , helped her husband on the family farm, and owned Wilson Busing. Fleda enjoyed taking care of the calves on the farm, knitting, cooking , and Folk Art painting. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, fro m the Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Gr aham Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Presb yterian Cemetery, McAlisterville. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends fro m 10 a.m. until the time of service, Tuesday, at the church. She was born Aug. 9, 1914 in Beech Creek. Florence was married to Lawr ence A. Barner, who died in 1975. Florence worked as an inspector for Sylvania. She was a member of Mil l Hall United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Lawrence (Joan) Barner of Fayetteville, N.C.; thr ee daughters, Shirley Temple of Surprise, Ariz., Nancy (Cliff) Huxle y of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Carole Barner of San Antonio, Texas; f our grandsons, four great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter ; and a sister, Shirley Young of Lock Haven. Born in Carroll , PA, son of the late Kenneth and Lydia (nee Lupold) Houtz, he had bee a longtime area resident. He graduated from Penns Grove High Schoo l in 1957 and served in the US Navy from 1957 until 1959. Mr. Houtz ha d been employed at DuPont, Florida Power and Light and for electricia Ray Angelini. He had been a member of the Quinton Sportsmen's Club , the Church of Our Merciful Saviour and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting , fishing, antiques and auctions and taking rides with Ginger. Mr. Hou tz is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judith (nee Young) Houtz, hi s children, Michael F. Born March 29, 1910 in Rosecrans, Forrest was a son of the late Boyd C . and Fairy Dress Barner. Forrest worked as a mechanic for more than 40 years as a loom fixer a t Bloomsburg Mills. He had also been a member of the Flemington Fire C ompany. His wife, the former Margaret Miller, survives in Lock Haven. Other su vivors include a daughter, Beverly J. (Randall K.) Packer, Annadale , Va.; a son, William R. Barner, Lock Haven; four grandchildren and se ven great-grandchildren. She was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Lamar Twp, Clinton Co, PA, the daughte of the late Clarence and Mary Duck Schrack. On Sept. 6, 1952 she married Roy. L Kramer who died Oct. 13 1986. Frances was a longtime employee of Woolrich Woolen Mills in the Sewin g Dept. retiring in 1987. She had done volunteer work at the Susque-View Home and the Salvatio Army. She enjoyed Bible study. Frances was a member of the Cedar Hei ghts Brethren in Christ Church, Mill Hall. She is survived by a daughter Mary K. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at 1 1 a.m. in Bellefonte, at Union Cemetery with Rev. David Vogan officiat ing. Mrs. Heverly was born in Bellefonte, on Sept. 15, 1913 to the lat e George H. and Emma S. Hazel. She graduated from Bellefonte High Scho ol in 1930. She married the late Earl O. Heverly in 1936. They moved t o Buffalo, N.Y. in 1948. In 1964 they returned to Bellefonte where the y ran Heverly's News Agency on Allegheny Street for many years. At th e age of 80, she made the move to Atlanta, Ga. to be with family and s tart a new life as an active senior in a retirement community. She kep t busy for the next 16 years volunteering in the post office, on the f ont desk, giving guided tours and running the library at the facility . She also enjoyed playing bridge and many lunch outings with her ne w friends. She is survived by her son, James G. Heverly; granddaughter , Claire H. 160 | Francis E. "Fritz" Reamer PENNS CREEK - Francis E. "Fritz" Reamer, 71, of Penns Creek, passed aw ay suddenly late Saturday evening, June 17, 2006, at his home. He was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Lewisburg, a son of the late John M. an d Katie M. (Wolfe) Reamer. Fritz attended Mifflinburg High School and served in the Navy. Earlier in life, he had been employed by the PA State Library in Harri sburg, but was employed most of his life as a professional dog groomer . Fritz returned to Central PA in August 2005. Prior to that he had live d in Texas, Florida and for many years on the West Coast. Surviving are four brothers and one sister-in-law, Lee Reamer of Aaron sburg, J. Nelson and Carol Reamer of Mifflinburg, Luther Reamer of Mil lersburg, and Arthur Reamer of Watsontown; three sisters and two broth ers-in-law, Anna Schreck of Lewisburg, Charlotte and Calvin Styers o f Mifflinburg, and Dorothy and George Richard of Middleburg; as well a s numerous nieces and nephews. Bigelow, 75, of 211 West Village Drive, Nisbet, went to b e with his Lord Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Williamsport Home follow ing a courageous battle with cancer. He and his wife, the former Ruth Ann Day observed their 51st wedding a iversary on Aug. 24, 2007. Fran was a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War and was a lif e member of the Duboistown V.F.W. Post #7863. Fran was a member of the Nisbet United Methodist Church, the Pleasan t View Hunting Club in Morris, the Lycoming Creek Anglers Associatio and the PA Game Feeders Association. He was an avid hunter, fisherma and NASCAR, Jeff Gordon fan. Fran also enjoyed baseball and played s oftball locally for many years. Fran retired from Weis Markets in 1991 after 35 years of service a s a Grocery Manager in Montoursville. Born April 12, 1933 in Sodus Point, NY, he was the son of Cortland W . and Margaret E. Turner Bigelow. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Joseph A. (Linda) of Willi amsport; Todd F. (Lori) of Montoursville; daughters, Brenda L. (Scott ) Slocum of Montoursville; Kimberly A. Swinehart Jr., 77, of 632 McElhattan Dr., McElhattan passed a way Feb. 12, 2011 in the Bon-Secours Hospital, Altoona of complication s from pneumonia after a year long illness. He was born in Lock Haven, August 10, 1933, the son of late Frank A. a d Beulah Wolfe Swinehart Sr. Frank was united in marriage to the former Mary Ann Casciani on Augus t 29, 1959. She preceded him in death, June 21, 1995. Frank was a 1951 graduate of the Lock Haven High School. He worked for Talley Motor Co. after graduation. Frank returned to tea ch small engine repair at the high school for a short time in Guy Dona hue's absence. In 1954 he entered the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Korea War until 1956. Upon returning from the service, he had worked as a mechanic and final ly the parts manager at the former Casselberry Motors in Lock Haven. In 1963 he went to work at Piper Aircraft as a welder for many years a d as a methods analyst until 1980. He worked at Haven Homes in Beech Creek as a finish carpenter and reti ed in 2001 from Lunair, Inc., in Williamsport. Frank was an avid pilot, having learned to fly in 1962 and continuin g to fly until 2009. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing in hi s earlier years and dabbling in Lionel trains. Frank was also a member of the McElhattan United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, Frank E. Swinehart of McElhattan; two sisters, Ru by Eyer of Georgia and Betty Smith of Alabama and close companion an d friend, Jean Watkins. 164 | Fred Barner, 78, a retired linotype operator for The Inquirer, died ye sterday at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Northern Division. He live d in the Germantown section of the city. A native of Huntingdon, he came to Philadelphia in the Depression days , looking for work. A friend recommended him for a job in The Inquirer 's printing plant. He went to work on Oct. 23, 1936, and retired on De c. 28, 1974. An active bowler, he continued in league competition until a short tim e before his death. B orn Feb. 1, 1926 in Mackeyville, PA he was the son of the late Georg e B. and Amanda Elizabeth Sager Furst. On Sept. 18, 1944 he married M ary Ann Kyle who died July 18, 2001. A graduate of the Mill Hall High School, Fred was a W. W. II veteran o f the U. S. Army Air Force serving as a SGT. In the 301st Army Air For ce Base Unit. For his service he received the W. W. II Victory Medal , the Good Conduct Medal and the European-African- Middle Eastern Serv ice Medal. Fred had visited the W. W. II Memorial in Washington, D C with a group of other veterans on a bus trip organized as a senior p oject in 2015. He was a long time general manager of Kyle’s Dairy, Ma ckeyville and retired in 2006 as a rural route deliveryman for the U.S .P.S. after 10 yrs. service. He was born Sept. 4, 1919, a son of Banks Leister Swartz and Dora Ann Barner Swartz. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Wilma Jean Bitting. Born and reared in rural Juniata Co, near Richfield, Barner graduated from Liverpool High School in 1936, received his bachelor's degree in music from Susquehanna University in 1940 and his master's degree in music education from PA State University in 1949. Barner began his teaching career in the Millerstown schools in 1940. When the district reorganized in 1949, he became director of bands in the new Greenwood School District and held that position until his ret irement in 1977. During his tenure, the Greenwood High School band won four superior ra tings in marching band competitions and five superior ratings in district and state musi c contests. Barner served as guest conductor for various county and district festivals an d adjudicated umerous music contests. He was a member of the National Advisory Boar d of Modern Music Masters, the national music honor society for high school musi c students. In 1965, he was honored by his students, past and present, in a "Thi s is Your Life" program, and in 1967, he was selected as Teacher of the Year by the Pe y County Education Association and Region K educational unit of the state. He w as further honored by receiving a citation from the state Department of Education for out standing contributions in the field of music education. In 1972, he received the Phi Beta M u Outstanding Bandmaster Award for the state of PA, awarded by the Nu Chapter of the National Bandmasters Fraternity. Following his 37-year teaching career, in 1977, Barner organized the G eenwood Community Band and served as its conductor for 19 years. He then hel d the title of conductor emeritus and continued his association in the band and affil iated brass choir as a member of the French horn section until 2005. Barner was an active member of Highland United Presbyterian Church, wh ere he was an elder, choir member, choir director and assistant choir director for m any years. He was instrumental in the foundation of the Eastern Perry County Recital Ser ies concerts presented at the church, featuring talented musicians from the centra l PA area. During World War II, Barner served in the Army as a bandsman, playin g French horn in the 216th Army Ground Forces Band at Camp Gordon, Ga. He later became a me mber of the 553rd Air Force Band of the PA Air National Guard, where he was a memb er of the French horn section and vocal soloist. After 22 years of service , he retired as a senior master sergeant, band superintendant and assistant bandmaster. He wa s awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for distinguished and meritorious service. Gardner, 84 , passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Mount Nittany Medical Centre , State College, Centre Co, PA Born on March 17, 1924 in New York City , he was the son of the late Braton R. and Helen M. Gardner. On Septem ber 8, 1951, he married Eleanor Tobias of Woolrich, who survives him . In 1938, he moved to State College from Montrose, graduating from St ate College High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Force in Wo ld War II, operating a pressure chamber at the 29th Pressure Trainin g Unit at the San Antonio Cadet Training Center. He received a Bachelo s degree in 1950 from Penn State, where he was a member of Phi Gamm a Delta social fraternity, Penn State Thespians, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia , and Psi Chi. He was an announcer at WMAJ radio station while studyin g for his Masters degree, which he received in 1952. Stating in 1952 , he was employed by HRB for 18 years as a Senior Intelligence Analyst . He later became a Senior Systems Analyst at Desmatics, Inc. He wa s a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, a member of Palm er Museum and of the Centre County Historical Society. He enjoyed man y years of golf at Centre Hills Country Club - from his arrival in 193 8 until recent years when he became ill. He also greatly enjoyed saili g and completed several U.S. Power Squadron courses. After retirement , he made many trips to Europe with his wife and was especially fond o f Switzerland, which they visited 13 times. In addition to his wife, h e is survived by three sons; Robert R. of Santa Fe, N.M., Michael S. o f Hattaras, N.C., and Thomas A. of State College. Born Oct. 29, 1923 in South Williamsport, she was the daughter of th e late Howard J. and Mabel M. Kast Shoup. Her husband of 47 years, Jac k M. Barner, preceded her in death on May 2, 1996. Mrs. Barner was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Wil liamsport, where over the years, she had served as a Sunday School tea cher and as a member of the Altar Guild of the church. Geraldine was a graduate of the Class of 1941 of the South Williamspor t High School, and more recently was a member of the "Class of '41 Lun ch Bunch." In addition to her late parents and her late husband, Mrs. Barner wa s also preceded in death by her three late brothers, Eugene, Robert an d Richard Kast. An avid outdoors person, she enjoyed gardening, especi ally growing flowers, hunting and fly fishing. She also enjoyed travel ing, particularly their annual family Canadian fishing trip. Grant wa s a member of the American Legion Post #284, Avis; the VFW Post #5859 , Jersey Shore, and the Local 824 Labor International Union of North A merica. Melva is survived by her four children, five grandchil dren and three great grandchildren. Compassionate by nature, Melva enj oyed volunteer nursing, care giving and other community service throug hout most of her adult life. Melva had great respect for education an d lifelong learning. With a sharp wit and mind, she enjoyed the compan y of others and kept abreast of world affairs, even after failing eyes ight curtailed her love of reading. Melva appreciated beauty in its ma y forms in both nature and art. Her soul responded with delight to ba bies, whether human or animal, and the burst of unfolding life in spri g. Melva married Dorsey in New Kensington, PA in 1932. They moved t o Southern California in 1942 with three children, Martha, Dorsey Jr. , and Elizabeth. Their fourth child, Nina, was born in 1952. Melva an d Dorsey moved from Northridge, CA to Ashland, OR in 1977. To continu e her volunteer work, she joined the Ashland Community Hospital Auxili ary. She was also active for several years in the Garden Club, Chambe of Commerce and Shakespeare Festival. After her husband, Dorsey, die d in 1998, Melva relocated to be near family in Gig Harbor, WA and lat er to San Leandro, CA. At her request, no services will be held. HAMMAKER Dorothy Mae “Dot” Hammaker, 63, of Ickesburg RR 1, Madison Twp, died S aturday, Oct. 30, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born March 18, 1941 to the late William Roy and Helen Irene (S eiler) Barner, and was raised from infancy by Virginia (Bailey) Smith- Barner. She was employed for more than 16 years by Empire Kosher Company, Miff lintown, as a line processor; educated at East Juniata High School, Co colamus; of the Pentecostal faith; and enjoyed going on shopping trips . Surviving are two brothers, Paul Barner of Richfield and Charles Barne of New Cumberland; a sister, Margaret VanHorn of Mifflintown RR 3; a d a companion of many years, Edward Rice Sr. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Howard and Paul Sm ith; and a sister, Thelma Barner. A funeral service was held Nov. 3 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, w ith Barry D. Brubaker officiating. Snyder, who died Dec. 3, 1982 . Born June 7, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Collinson and E mma (Dietz) Barner. She was a member of Emory United Methodist Churc h in New Oxford. Surviving are a son, William H. Snyder III of Little ton, Colo.; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Snyder of Talent, Ore.; two grand children and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be hel d at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Assisted Living Social Room at The Brethre Home Community in New Oxford. The Rev. John P. 200 | Harold Barner Obituary ddwruck39added this on 8 Jun 2008 Harold "Barney" Barner 86 of Belgrade passed away Saturday, April 9, 2 005 at home surrounded by his family. Harold was born on January 16 , 1919 in Stapleton, NB to Lester M. and Hazel Raynard Barner. He mar ied Dorothy May Francis on October 17, 1947 in Jackson Hole, WY. H e was a rural postal route carrier. He worked for the postal servic e for 23 years and retired in 1981. Harold was very involved in the B elgrade community with such activities as an instructor for the Hunte Safety Course, helped start the first Belgrade Boy Scouts, one of th e founding fathers of the Fall Festival, City Council Member, Panthe Sports Booster, Baghdad Shrine Temple and 58 years as a Master Maso in Belgrade Lodge No.68. He was also a Master Gardener and was invo lved in the Nebraska State FFA Scholarhip Fund. Harold served his cou try in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He is survived by his wi fe Dorothy of 57; sons: Mike Barner and Les (Diane) Barner both of Be lgrade; sister Myrtle (Alton) Dawson of Battle Ground, WA; brothers Ru ss Barner of Choteau, MT; Keith (Billie Jo) Barner of Bozeman; Jim (Ro bin) Barner of Spokane, WA; Melvin Barner of Post Falls, ID; and Bob ( Joyce) Barner of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren; 3 great grandchil dren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in de ath by his parents, brother Ray Barner; sisters: Eppie Stephens and Th elma Rodman.
