Born Nov. 15, 1921, in Perry Co, she was a daughter of late Elmer and Margaret (Barner) Lyter. She was married to J. Howard Goodling, who died in 1977. She attended Perry County schools. Mrs. Goodling was employed at the Richfield Shirt Factory for more than 25 years. She enjoyed quilting. She was a member of Leininger's Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RD 2, and women of the ELCA of the church. She is survived by one daughter, Dale E. Frymoyer of Port Trevorton RD1; two sons, Terry R. of Millerstown RD2, with whom she lived since October, and Gerald W. of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; one brother, Roy Lyter of Richfield; three sisters, Betty Benner of Lemoyne and June Niemond and Arlene Willow, both of Richfield; and a umber of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice E. Goodling, on Feb. 27; one brother, Barner Lyter; and two sisters, Ruth Strawser and Pauline Troutman. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, by the Rev. Celo V. Leitzel. 502 | RUFUS BOYER MILLERSTOWN - Rufus R. Boyer, 75, of Millerstown RD1, died Thursday a t 7:10 p.m. in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, where he was a patient sinc e June 26. A native of Oriental, Perry Co, he received his education in the Junia ta County schools. His family moved to that county while he was a youn g boy. Following his schooling, Mr. Boyer moved to Cleveland, OH, where he be came employed as a machine operator in a foundry. On July 17, 1919, he was united in marriage with the former Katie Barn er, then of Liverpool. The couple lived in Perry and Juniata Counties, operating a farm at Ne w Bloomfield. Mr. Boyer was also employed as a machinist by the Penn Ce tral Railroad. He retired in 1962. A veteran of world War I, he received his honorable discharge in 1918. Born May 27, 1897, in Oriental, he was the son of the late Frank and E mma Chubb Boyer. Mr. Boyer was a member of the New Bloomfield V.F.W. Post No. 7463, th e Newport American Legion Post No. 17*, the Newport Loyal Order of Moose No. 156 2 and the Newport Social Order of Owls. Surviving him, in addition to his widow, are four daughters: Mrs. Geo ge McGowan of Millerstown RD1, Mrs. Uri* Nailor of Newport RD2, Mrs. Harl ey Hulbert of Newport RD and Mrs. Ralph Kimmel of Elliottsburg; one son, Bruce Bo yer of Millerstown RD1; 2 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and on e sister, Mrs. Glenn Vergon of Buchanan, Mich. He was preceded in death by tw o brothers. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. from the Georg e P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Donald L. 511 | Samuel Lupold was born in 1824 in the vicinity of Sunbury. In his earlier years he was engaged in farming in Clinton Co, Pa., and later conducted a sawmill there, near Eastville, subsequently moving t o Union Co, where he kept books for a lumber concern until his death, which occurred in 1874, at Cooper's Mill, Union county. He was burie d at Watsontown, Northumberland county. Mr. Lupold was an ambitious man, a d by application became a well informed man. At the time of his marriage he could neither read nor write, and he was self instructed, his practical attainments being best indicated by the position he filled during the latter years of his life. He was a member of the Reformed Church. Mr. Lupold married Susan Kerstetter, daughter of Samuel and Hannah (Barner) Kerstetter, of Clinton Co, the latter of whom was a daughter of George Barner and one of a family of twenty-two children. Mrs. Susan (Kerstetter) Lupold died in 1886, in her fifty-ninth year. She was the mother of the following children: Catharine died when sixteen years old; William H. is a resident of Cameron Co, Pa.; Supera married Eli F. Garner and lives near Eastville, Pa.; Fayette married Hiram Lefever, of Aurora, Nebr.; Sarah married William H. Lesher; Harriet died when four years old, of poisoning; Minerva marrie d Daniel J. Born July 6, 1939, in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of Jasper H . Bower and the former Hazel L. Kennedy. Shirley is survived by her hu sband, Harry L. Carstetter Sr.; they were united in marriage June 15 , 1957, in Jersey Shore. She was retired from the Jersey Shore Hospital after many years as a n ursing assistant. Shirley enjoyed bowling, crafts, tending to her flow ers and worked as a volunteer for the American Rescue Workers. Also surviving is her mother of Antes Fort; two sons, Harry L. Carstet ter Jr. of Avis and James A. (Karen) Carstetter of Rauchtown; one daug hter, Cynthia L. (Barry) Krape of Bastress; nine grandchildren, Lisa , Chad, Mary, Tommy, Dustin, Ashley, Tyler, Brian and Nick; also seve great-grandchildren; and one brother, John A. (Donna) Bower of Ante s Fort. 536 | Squire Absalom Barner The Veteran Democrat dies from a Paralystic Stroke Absalom Barner, of Susquehanna Twp, One of the Best known, and most prominent citizens of Juniata Co, die d on Monday at the age of 64 years. The funeral will not take [place ] until Friday, having been postponed to await the arrival of a brothe from the West. About a month ago Squire Barner was stricken with paralysis one entir e side of his body being rendered completely helpless. He became unco scious from the shock, and remained in that condition for about a wee k. When he came to, he had lost the power of speech and never thereaf ter regained it. Mr. Barner had a number of years filled in the position of Justice o f the Peace and was well known all over the county as Squire Barner . He was one one of our staunchest and most active Democrats and no m an in his section wielded more political influence than he. 537 | Stanley T. Glossner October 18, 2008 The Express Stanley T. "Speed" Glossner, 82, of Monroeton, passed away Thursday ev ening Oct. 16, 2008 at Memorial Hospital, North Towanda Township. Born Dec. 19, 1925 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Lawrenc e Glossner and Hazel Thompson Glossner. Stanley was a graduate of Lock Haven High School and Temple University , where he actively competed as a member of his high school and colleg e wrestling teams. He served in the U.S Army's CO H 262nd Infantry in Northern France dur ing the European African Middle Eastern Campaign of World War II and w as a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. On Oct. 11, 1952, he married the former Peggy C. McGhee in Lock Haven. Stanley was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for over 30 years unti l his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Lock Haven, Benevolent and Pro tective Order of Elks Lodge of Towanda, Wyalusing American Legion Post , Towanda Country Club and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. Stanley enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Peggy C. Glossner at home; three s ons and daughters-in-law, R. Thomas and Jody Glossner of Reading, R. D aniel and Teresa Glossner of Decatur, Ala., and Scott A. and Jill Glos sner of Tabernacle, N.J.; three granddaughters: Hannah, Leslie Ann an d Kaitlyn; a sister, Dorothy Shadduck of Lock Haven; two brothers an d sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Sherry Glossner of Mill Hall and Richar d and Marty Glossner of Hawley; and several nieces, nephews and cousin s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, E velyn Decker and Eleanor Wyland; an infant sister; and a brother, Will iam Glossner. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the famil y. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. 547 | The Daily Item 6/13/2007 6:47 AM JUNE M. NIEMOND RICHFIELD - June M. Niemond, 82, of Richfield, entered into rest on Mo day, March 12, 2007, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She was born June 19, 1924, in Liverpool, a daughter of the late Elme and Margaret (Barner) Lyter. She was married on Nov. 1,1941, at the parsonage in Fr eeburg by the Rev. George Fetterolf to Lester E. Niemond, who survives. They celebra ted 65 years of marriage. She had been employed at Kerstetter's Corner Store, Richfield, and pre viously worked at Whispering Springs Country Store, Mount Pleasant Mills, and at the for mer East Salem Blouse Factory, in its shipping department. She was a longtime member of Richfield United Church of Christ and it s Women's Guild and was involved in many church activities. She also was active in the Richfield Women's Club and the Juniata Coun ty Democratic Women's Club and had served as secretary of the Richfield Community Bo ard and was a committeewoman for Monroe Twp. June was a former member of the Miffli Chapter 260, Order of Eastern Star, Mifflintown. Most of all, June was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother a d great-grandmother, who was an accomplished quilter. She loved to shar e her talents by crafting her own "special" Christmas gifts for her family, especiall y her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to her beloved husband, are one son and daughte -in-law, Larry and Patricia Niemond of Richfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Trud y J. and Steven Sheerer of Richfield; six grandchildren, Amy McLaughlin, Ashley Niemon d, Tammy Jacobs and her husband Mark, Teresa Longacre, Zachary Sheerer and his wife Ka thy, and Heather Sheerer; six great-grandchildren, Alisha, Lauren and Spencer M cLaughlin, Paige Niemond, Chelsea Mills and Isaac Sheerer; one brother and sister-in-la w, Roy and Orpha Lyter of Richfield; two sisters and brother-in-law, Arlene Willow of R ichfield and Betty and Herbert Benner of Camp Hill; and many nieces and nephews. He then began working at Republic Steel, which became LTV Steel, retiring in 1984, after 34 years of service. He was a member of Overton Church of Christ, where he had served as a deacon, a member of the Farm Bureau, and United Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Robert (Teresa) Barne Jr. of Burbank, Bennie (Valerie) Barner and George (Beth) Barner, both of Wooster and Darlene L.
