- Etta Barner Obituary
Etta V. Barner was born in Portland, Ore., to Verne and Bertha Dysle. She was the oldest sibling to her brother Vern and sister Ruth at the family farm at Bethany. She attended Bethany Grade School, Beaverton High School class of 1948 and Lewis & Clark College.
In 1953 she married James R. Berger of Bethany, who passed away two and a half years later. Etta worked for ATT for 32 years and was very active in Christian Endeavor (CE) for most of her life, including travels to World CE Conventions. Upon retirement she married the Reverend Charles Barner, who was also active in CE. Together they pastored churches in Palmyra and Allentown Pennsylvania. They continued a Christ focused life in retirement. They shared a joy of travel, with Etta having visited more than 50 countries in her lifetime. Following Charles' passing, Etta returned to the Bethany area and was very actively involved with family and her Church.
She is survived by stepson, C. Timothy Barner; stepdaughter, Rebecca Cathers; six step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Nordling; sister-in-law, Myrna Dysle, and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
