Plum Church Cemetery - Cooperstown, Cooperstown, Venango County, Pennsylvania, USA

Notes: AKA: Small Cemetery

In an area known as Plum Corners in Jackson Township is the Plum Church Cemetery. The land for the church and one acre for a cemetery was given by Samuel H. Small and in 1851 the church was erected. The church has been demolished but the cemetery is well maintained due to the residents of the area.

Many members of the Small family are buried in this graveyard including Samuel Small, a native of Ireland, who served as a captain in the War of 1812. Being impressed with the area when he traveled through, he returned to establish his home here in the early 1820s. Samuel married Mary Hays. Their son Samuel H. married Melissa Collins. Her parents, Anson Collins, also a veteran of the War of 1812, and Alice Adams Collins are buried in this graveyard.

Area history has indicated that the home of Samuel H. & Melissa served as a depot on the Underground Railroad for transporting slaves to the safety of Canada.
