The annual Barner Reunion will be held on June 19, 2021 at Barner’s Church, Liverpool. It has been awhile since we’ve seen each other due to the pandemic, we missed getting together last year. I am hopeful that this year we can get together. We may take the reunion to the grove. That way we can enjoy the sunshine and the scenic view from the church. If you check out our website, the year the reunion started was 1921. That makes this the 100th year since the start. Just think the reunion was started after the last pandemic. I often wonder who started the reunion. Was it Adam or a family member?
How far spread were the members of the family? I know we the younger generation are spread all over the world. I remember my grandmother, Verna Earnest, telling stories that it was a big deal to go to the reunions. They always got a new dress and shoes. No work other than the barn work was done on reunion day. We know from pictures that there were lots of people who came to the reunion. I love looking at those pictures, just wish that the list of names would stay with the pictures.
Sure wish we could get a crowd again like they did back in years past. I still love getting together and listening to everyone’s stories of things that happened in their family’s past. A lot of the Barners have very interesting things happen in their lives. I feel if we listen to these stories, not only does it keep the people’s memories alive, but we can learn from the past.
Depending on the number of cases in Pennsylvania, the reunion may look a little different this year. I would recommend everyone wears a mask and we social distance. This is the reason I mentioned that we might hold the reunion in the grove. I hope that this newsletter finds everyone healthy and enjoying life. Hopefully, you’re planning on joining us for the annual reunion. Watch the Facebook page, Adam Barner Family of PA for updates. Also check out all the genealogy that is linked to the page.
Hope to see you on June 19th.
Respectfully, Beth Sowers
