    Harold "Barney" Barner 86 of Belgrade passed away Saturday, April 9, 2
    005 at home surrounded by his family. Harold was born on January 16
    , 1919 in Stapleton, NB to Lester M. and Hazel Raynard Barner. He mar
    ied Dorothy May Francis on October 17, 1947 in Jackson Hole, WY. H
    e was a rural postal route carrier. He worked for the postal servic
    e for 23 years and retired in 1981. Harold was very involved in the B
    elgrade community with such activities as an instructor for the Hunte
    Safety Course, helped start the first Belgrade Boy Scouts, one of th
    e founding fathers of the Fall Festival, City Council Member, Panthe
    Sports Booster, Baghdad Shrine Temple and 58 years as a Master Maso
    in Belgrade Lodge No.68. He was also a Master Gardener and was invo
    lved in the Nebraska State FFA Scholarhip Fund. Harold served his cou
    try in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He is survived by his wi
    fe Dorothy of 57; sons: Mike Barner and Les (Diane) Barner both of Be
    lgrade; sister Myrtle (Alton) Dawson of Battle Ground, WA; brothers Ru
    ss Barner of Choteau, MT; Keith (Billie Jo) Barner of Bozeman; Jim (Ro
    bin) Barner of Spokane, WA; Melvin Barner of Post Falls, ID; and Bob (
    Joyce) Barner of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren; 3 great grandchil
    dren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in de
    ath by his parents, brother Ray Barner; sisters: Eppie Stephens and Th
    elma Rodman.
