    Harold (Bud) Charles Yost, Jr., 76, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at his home. Born in Lock Haven on March 9, 1943 he was the son of Harold (Bud) Charles Yost Sr. and Elva Hakin Yost.

    Bud graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1960. Bud was an outstanding athlete lettering in football, track and basketball. He was selected to the 1960 Big 33 Football team. He was a member of the undefeated 1960 Lock Haven Bobcat football team. He set records in the javelin and shotput. He received the most valuable participant award for the Sixth Annual Juniata Relays. He set the 100 yard dash record at the Lock Haven High School.

    Bud was elated when Rip Engle and Joe Paterno came to his home and offered Bud a scholarship to Penn State University. Bud was the limbo champion at the Delta Upsiln Fraternity. Bud would say he majored in football, food, and beverages at Penn State. Bud played in two bowl games the Gator Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. He was very proud that he had the opportunity to shake President John F. Kennedy’s hand at the Sugar Bowl.

    After college, Bud worked with his father selling and building Ridge Pike Homes. In 1972 they sold 52 homes after the flood. He worked for Nestlerode Construction and was also a sub contractor. He was the owner and manager of the Eagle Hotel. Bud was a member of City Council from 1992-1995. He was mayor of Lock Haven 1996 -1999. He was a Clinton County Commissioner 2000 - 2007.

    Bud loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He love spending time with his family, son Buddy, Teresa, and Delani. He enjoyed being with his side kick and beloved dog Sheba.

    He was a lifetime member of the Castanea Fire Company, Elks, NRA, North American Hunting Club, Penn State Letterman Club.

    He was preceded in death by his father: Harold Charles Yost Sr., his mother; Elva Hakin Yost, his brother; Billy Lee Yost.

    He is survived by a son Harold (Buddy) Yost III, and his wife Teresa; a granddaughter; Delani; a sister; Bonnie Sue Yost Probst; a brother-in-law Samuel W. Probst; nephews, Samuel Grant Probst (Donna), Benson Wade Probst and Troy Allan Probst (Bethany); great nieces, Allison R. Probst, Alesia Ross Parks (Jake); great nephews, Cy Probst, Kelvin Probst, Watt Probst; a great great nephew Corbin Parks, and a great great niece, Sage Parks.

    Funeral services for Harold (Bud) Charles Yost, Jr. will be held Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Mitch Smith of Christ Community Church, State College.

    Family and friends will be received in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, LLC on Thursday, July 11, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Harold’s name to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Road, Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.

    Harold C. (Bud) Yost Sr.

    Harold C. (Bud) Yost Sr., 85, of 615 W. Grape St., Castanea, died Dec
    . 14, 2008 at Williamsport Hospital Intensive Care Unit. He had been i
    failing health.

    He was born in Lock Haven on Dec. 26, 1922, the son of the late John A
    . and Jennie Shadle Yost.

    Bud was married to Elva Hakin Yost, who preceded him in death in 1997.

    He attended Lock Haven High School and entered the militry in 1944, se
    ving with the U.S. Navy as a boatswain's mate. He was given a two-wee
    k crash course and after completion was made a third-class petty offic
    er in the Navy. He considered himself very lucky. His duties include
    d being in charge of the seamen who were building landing ship tanks a
    d mother ships, which were vessels used to transport the LCTs to thei
    destinations. Bud's mother ship carried him through the Panama Cana
    l to New Guinea. The boat, which was extremely slow, took 65 days to g
    et there from New Orleans.

    After discharge from the service in 1946, Bud worked at Piper Aircraf
    t and Hammermill Paper Company and also did carpenter work at Penn Sta
    te University with the Mill Right Union.

    In 1961 Bud went into the construction business for himself. He attrib
    uted his experience of building ships in the Navy as giving him the kn
    owledge to become a building contractor, having built more homes tha
    anyone in the area.

    He also developed an area in Castanea, known as Yost Addition, and i
    1972 after the flood purchased a franchise for Ridge Homes.

    Along with his wife, he purchased and ran the Eagle Hotel in Lock Have
    . After he sold the business he kept busy cooking for More Than Brea
    d and the Salvation Army.

    He was involved in many organizations including the Jersey Shore VFW
    . He was a life member of the Castanea Fire Company, Lock Haven Elks B
    POE #182, Beech Creek American Legion and YMCA, and served as past pre
    sident of the Lock Haven-Mill Hall Golden K. He was also a volunteer f
    or the Lock Haven Salvation Army.

    Survivors include a son, Harold C. (Bud) Yost Jr. and his girlfriend
    , Carolyn Munro of Castanea, and a daughter, Bonnie S. and her husban
    d Samuel W. Probst of Swissdale.

    Also surviving are a sister, Pauline Yost Donavan of El Cajon, Calif.
    ; four grandchildren, Samuel G. and his wife Donna Probst, Benson W. P
    obst and his girlfriend Robin Shadle, Troy A. and his wife Bethany Pr
    obst, and Harold (Bud) III and his wife Teresa Yost; and six great-gra
    dchildren.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Billie Lee Yost in August of 1993
    , and three brothers, John A. Jr., Russell and Sanford Yost.

    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Yost-Gedo
    Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Officiating will be Rev
    . Fred Fields assisted by Pastor Charles Jenkins. Interment will be i
    Linnwood Cemetery, McElhattan, with full military honors.

    Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesd
    ay. Elks services will be held at 6 p.m. and Castanea Fire Company ser
    vices at 8:30 p.m.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the Castanea Unite
    d Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
