    William C. "Bill" Sheaffer, 79, of Orval Drive, Beavertown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at his home.
    He was born Dec. 19, 1940, in Oriental, a son of the late W. Clair and Anna Jean (Crissman) Sheaffer. He was married for 63 years to Sue Ann (Knouse) Sheaffer who survives.
    Bill was a 1958 graduate of East Juniata High School and earned his bachelor of science degree in vocational agriculture and PhD from Penn State University in 1962 and 1980 respectively.

    He worked in education throughout his life and started his career as a teacher at Southern Huntington School District from 1963-1966. He then moved to Snyder County where he began teaching vocational agriculture at West Snyder High School and later became Midd-West School District Assistant Superintendent from 1991-1993 and the Superintendent from 1993-1999. He retired after a 35 year career in education.
    Mr. Sheaffer was a lifetime member of Leininger's Lutheran Church in Oriental where he served in numerous roles within the church.

    In his spare time he loved farming and bowling and was inducted into the Pennsylvania State USBC Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. Bill had four sanctioned 700 games and one perfect 300 game in the Seven Mountains Senior Tournament.

    He was a Young Farmer's Instructor and an avid Penn State Football fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and loved spending time with his family. Earlier in life Bill was a member of the John Regester No. 6 sprint car team with numerous drivers, most notably Mitch Smith. He also enjoyed many snowmobile trips to Canada and once completed a snowmobile trip from Maine to Michigan.

    Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Denise Sheaffer; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis Sheaffer, Douglas and Angie Sheaffer, Darin and Suzanne Sheaffer and David and Rita Sheaffer; grandchildren, Derek, Dustin, Michael, Justin, Brandon, Dylan, Breanna, Christopher, Josie, Danelle, Tony and Jacoby; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Lorraine Troutman; and one brother-in-law, Don Ackard.

    He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Lisa Sheaffer; two sisters, Janet Gingrich and Dorothy Ackard; three brothers-in-law, Ted Troutman, Jack Knouse and William "Tip" Knouse.

    Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 130 S. Zechman St., Beavertown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, with Rev. Lisa Raylene Barnes officiating. For everyone's safety, the family asks that all attending follow the social distancing guidelines and are encouraged to wear a mask.

    Burial will follow in Leininger's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to his church, Leininger's Lutheran Church, 357 Leiningers Church Road, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA 17853.
