    David Stanley Swartz
    David Stanley Swartz, 67, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefull
    y after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on Thursday morning, A
    ugust 10, 2017 at his home while surrounded by his family. Born Septem
    ber 26, 1949 in Lewisburg, PA, he was a son of the late M. Stanley an
    d A. Miriam Ferster Swartz. Dave served honorably with the US Air Forc
    e during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Element
    ary Education from Houghton College and later attained his Master’s De
    gree in Education from Shippensburg University. Mr. Swartz taught fift
    h grade at Stevens Elementary his entire thirty-two year career with t
    he Chambersburg Area School District, serving as head teacher of the s
    chool his last eighteen years. He was an active member of the Chambers
    burg First Church of God where he sang in the choir, played baritone i
    the orchestra, and volunteered serving funeral meals. He also operat
    ed the camcorder at Penn Hall one Sunday of each month. He was a membe
    of The Gideons International for many years.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Lyter Swartz, tw
    o children - Matthew Swartz of Chambersburg and Angie Cales (husband J
    osh) of Hagerstown and his grandson Gavin Cales. He is also survived b
    y three brothers - Daniel Swartz (wife Patricia), Philip Swartz (wif
    e Carol), and Stephen Swartz, all of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survi
    ved by six nieces and nephews - Ryan, Jenna, Kristen, Jessica (husban
    d Stuart), Justin (wife May), and Kendall.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2017 a
    t Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersbur
    g, PA. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment with military h
    onors will be in Richfield Community Cemetery, Richfield, PA. The fami
    ly will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Thomas L. Geisel F
    uneral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersbur
    g, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dave’s memory may be mad
    e to The Gideon’s International, PO Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090 o

    RICHFIELD — M. Stanley Swartz, 82, of R.R. #1 Richfield, died at 9:5
    5 a.m., Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danvil
    le.
    Born May 17, 1921 in Monroe Township, Juniata Co, he was the son of th
    e late Banks L. and Dora (Barner) Swartz. His wife, Miriam (Ferster) S
    wartz, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1945, survives.
    Also surviving are four sons, David S. Swartz and wife Linda, Chambers
    burg, Daniel E. Swartz and wife Patricia, Philip D. Swartz and wife Ca
    ol and Stephen D. Swartz and wife Denise, all of Tallahassee, FL; thr
    ee brothers, Lloyd Swartz, Pittsburgh and Barner Swartz and Byron Swar
    tz, both of Millerstown; two sisters, Ruth Swartz, Richfield and Shirl
    ey Sheaffer, Mt. Pleasant Mills; and eight grandchildren.
    He was a 1939 graduate of Liverpool High School, a 1950 graduate of Bu
    cknell University with a BS in Elementary Education and a 1957 graduat
    e of Penn State University with a Master's of Education.
    He retired on May 27, 1983 with 34 years of service after having taugh
    t in the Juniata County School District since 1947 and in his early ca
    eer he had taught at Liverpool for seven years.
    He was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church, where he served a
    s a Sunday School Teacher and as a Deacon for nine years. He was als
    o a member of the Juniata County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association o
    f School Retirees, and the State Association of Pennsylvania Associati
    on of School Retirees, Gideon’s International and he had served on t
    he Board of Directors for Montrose Bible Conference.s
    He loved traveling, especially to Alaska, playing golf with his sons a
    d doing crossword pu?les.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 fro
    m the Richfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jerry R. O’Connell off
    iciating. Interment will follow in the Richfield Union Cemetery, Richf
    ield.
    Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church.

    A. Miriam Swartz, 90, of Richfield died at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, Jun
    e 13, 2013 at the Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.

    Born December 23, 1922 in Monroe Twp., Juniata County she was a daught
    er of the late Earl S. and Emma (Graybill) Ferster. On November 23, 19
    45, she married her late husband, M. Stanley Swartz, with whom she sha
    ed 58 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on November 24
    , 2003.

    Surviving are her children, David S. Swartz and his wife Linda, of Cha
    mbersburg, Daniel E. Swartz and his wife Patricia, Philip D. Swartz an
    d his wife Carol and Stephen D. Swartz, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; tw
    o siblings, Earl W. Ferster and his wife Grace, of Selinsgrove, Murie
    l A. Stouffer and her husband Hubert, of Richfield and she leaves behi
    d eight grandchildren, Matthew Swartz, Angela Cales, Ryan Swartz, Jen
    a Swartz , Kristen Swartz, , Jessica Atkinson, Justin Swartz, Kendal
    l Swartz and two great grandchildren, Oathen Atkinson and Lily Atkinso
    .

    Three brothers, Robert M. Ferster, Paul G. Ferster, Howard W. Ferste
    and a daughter in law, Denise Swartz, preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Swartz was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church, where sh
    e belonged to the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member o
    f the WCTU and the Gideon's Auxiliary.

    Miriam was a homemaker who enjoyed many things, including needle point
    , quilting, reading and playing games. Her strong faith and Christia
    devotion was evident in the many people and causes for which she pra
    yed.

    Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2013 from the Ri
    chfield Mennonite Church, with Pastor Aaron Benner, Pastor Paul Beec
    h and Pastor Chandler Cutting officiating. Interment will follow in th
    e Richfield Union Cemetery.

    Viewing will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the R
    ichfield Mennonite Church.

    Roy E. Lyter, 84, Richfield

    - RICHFIELD - Roy E. Lyter, 84, of Richfield, went Home to be with hi
    s Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 3, 2011, in the Geisinger Medica
    l Center, Danville.

    He was born on Sept. 18, 1926, in Perry Co, a son of the late Elmer an
    d Margaret “Maggie” (Barner) Lyter. On Jan. 4, 1949, he was united i
    marriage to the former Orpha M. Benner, who survives. His passing br
    eaks a strong and loving marital union of 61 years.

    Mr. Lyter graduated in 1944 from the former Liverpool High School. H
    e was a member of St. John (Barners) Lutheran Church, Liverpool sinc
    e childhood and had regularly attended the Richfield Mennonite Church
    . He held memberships in the Richfield Fire Company and the Richfiel
    d Ambulance League.

    Mr. Lyter retired as a carpenter from Ewing Construction, Selinsgrov
    e and Keister Construction, Winfield.

    Roy cherished his family, was a master carpenter, and enjoyed huntin
    g and viewing sports on television - especially the Philadelphia Phill
    ies.

    Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, Orpha, is a daughter and so
    -in-law, Linda Swartz and her husband, David, of Chambersburg; four g
    andchildren, Angela and Joshua Cales, Matthew Swartz, Sara Stoudt, an
    d Scott Stoudt; a son-in-law, Gary Stoudt, of Indiana, Pa.; two sister
    s, Betty Benner, of Mechanicsburg and H. Arlene Willow, of Richfield
    ; and many nieces and nephews.

    Mr. Lyter was preceded by a daughter, Rebecca A. Stoudt; a brother, Ba
    er Lyter; and four sisters, Ruth Strawser, Pauline Troutman, Ruby Go
    odling, and June Niemond.

    The family will receive friends for the viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunda
    y at The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pl
    easant Mills, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Richfield Menn
    onite Church where the funeral will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor J
    erry R. O’Connell officiating.

    Burial will be made in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
