LEWISTOWN-Arlene L. Barner, 86, of Lewistown, passed Friday, Oct. 21
, 2011, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Mahoning Twp, Montour C
o, PA, Danville.

Born March 7, 1925, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata Co, she was the dau
ghter of the late J. Domer and Dorothy (Martin) Swartz. Her husband, M
alvern J. "Slim" Barner, whom she married July 17, 1942, died Feb. 24
, 1999.

She is survived by: her children, John M. Barner, of Beavertown, Donal
d Dillman, of Thompsontown, Lester E. Barner, of Lewistown, Blanche Ri
den and husband, Mike, of Lewistown and Maxine A. Zook and husband, Le
onard, of Millerstown; sisters and brothers, Dorothy Wileman, Betty Ar
old, Martin O. Swartz, James Banks Swartz, Chester L. Swartz, Jerry D
. Swartz and Connie Esh; a granddaughter, Melanie Ann Hosler, whom sh
e raised, and husband, Terry; 14 other grandchildren; 17 great-grandch
ildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: two children, Vonnie May Ridley and Rona
ld J. Barner; one grandson, Clell William Mitchell; one great- grandda
ughter, Deseria Hosler; and siblings Frank Swartz, L. Russell Swartz
, H. William Swartz and Anna Zook.

Arlene worked as a practical nurse in various facilities.

She enjoyed eating out with family and friends, collecting bears and c
ocheting. She made a blanket for each of her children and grandchildr
en.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Guss Fu
eral Home, Inc., 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with Pastor Rodn
ey Bowers officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery
, Mifflintown.

There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the f
uneral home.
