• Obituary: Barry E. Gipe, 76, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania passed away at the Jewish Home of Harrisburg on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents Wilmot (Gene) and Dorothy Gipe. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Gipe, their son Michael (Denice) Gipe, grandchildren Michael (Nicole), and Miranda Gipe, and great-granddaughter Raelyn Gipe, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Barry was a graduate of the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg. He was the former owner of Gipe Floor and Wall Covering in Harrisburg. In his younger years he was an avid gardener, hunter, and deep-sea fisherman. He was a former member of White Rock Hunting Camp and a current member of the Enola Sportsmen's Association. In his golden years he was an avid reader, finishing one to two books a week. There will be a viewing on Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 9:30 A.M to 10:30 A.M. with a funeral service following directly after at 10:30 A.M. at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg. Following the service, there will be a procession to Woodlawn Cemetery for burial. In keeping with current health guidelines, attendees are encouraged to exercise proper precautions including the wearing of face coverings and appropriate social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in memory of Barry. Services have been entrusted to the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home. Wilmot E. Gipe, 85, of Lower Paxton Twp, Dauphin Co, PA, passed away T
uesday, July 31, 2007 at
Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Blanche Barne
Gipe, and was
was the widower of Dorothy L. (Huddleston) Gipe, who passed away on No
vember 25,
1996.
He was the founder of Gipe Floor and Wallcovering, Inc., in 1955, wa
s an Army Air Corps
Veteran of World War II and flew missions out of Northern England, an
d was a member of
American Legion Post 272, Linglestown.
He is survived by a son, Barry E., and his wife, Mary of Harrisburg
; a daughter, Cathy A.
Rogers and her husband, James of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Mich
ael D. Gipe,
James W. Rogers and Jordan Rogers Celeste and her husband, Peter; an
d two
great-grandchildren, Michael P. and Miranda M. Gipe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, at 11 a.m., at Hoove
Funeral Homes &
Crematory Inc., 6011 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg. Burial will be in W
oodlawn Memorial
Gardens. There will be a viewing on Saturday morning from 10 a.m., unt
il time of
services.
