    Dale Vernon Barner Jr., 64, of Williamsport, died Monday, June 18, 201
    8, at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport. Surviving is his wife of 24 y
    ears, Deborah L. (Rorrer) Barner.

    Born May 28, 1954, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Dale V
    . and Martha A. (Stroup) Barner Sr. He was also the brother of the lat
    e Ruth Boyles.

    He grew up primarily in the Washington, DC suburbs and graduated fro
    m Suitland High School, Suitland, Maryland. After serving in the DC Ar
    my National Guard, he had a long career in Emergency Road Service.

    Known as Sandy to family, Dale enjoyed helping others, from those he l
    oved to strangers he would encounter. He was an outdoor enthusiast, fr
    equently camping and learning survival skills.

    Surviving in addition to his wife, are a sister-in-law, Wanda Stewards
    on (Alex), of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Boyl
    es, of Cogan Station; three children, Travis Brandel (Christine), Shan
    on Brandel, Dale Vernon Barner III (Stephanie); and nine grandchildre
    , Kira Brandel, Wren Brandel, Noah Brandel, Sarah Brandel, Steven Hil
    l Jr., Joy Hill, Savannah Hill, Liberty Barner, and Emilia Barner.

    A funeral service to honor the life of Dale will be held 10 a.m. Satur
    day June 23 at St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown, 3242 Middle Road
    , Jersey Shore. Burial will follow in Oval Cemetery. A viewing will b
    e held 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 22 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Me
    morial Ave., Williamsport.

    Dale V. Barner, Sr., 73, of Bradbury Heights, MD, died at the Washington Hospital Center on December 27, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was married to the former Martha Stroup.

    Born in Oval, PA on March 18, 1928, a son of Warren Dean and Margaret Wentzel Barner. He was a resident of Maryland since 1960.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1985 from the Federal Highway Administration as a civil engineer. He later served as a consultant to T.Y. Lin International.

    He was active in the Prince George’s County Board of Trade, Inc., was a member of the American Legion Post 206 and a lifetime member of the VFW Bowie Post 8065.

    Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Dale, Jr., of Brandywine, MD; a daughter, Ruth B. Boyles of Forestville, MD; a brother, Charles F., of Williamsport; three sisters, Ann Wright, June Devine and Bertha Hawkins, all of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Jennifer Boyles Hooe, Christopher D. Boyles, Petty Officer 1st Class Richard W. Boyles and Andrew V. Boyles; three great grandchildren, Bailey, Robert and Olivia.

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown, with Rev. Dennis Chrissman, church pastor, officiating. There will be a visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue. Interment will be in the Oval Cemetery.

    Dale V. Barner Sr., 73, of Bradbury Heights, died Dec. 27 at Washingto
    Hospital Center.

    He was born in Oval, Pa. A veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he served during World War II and the Korean conflict.     Burial took place in Oval.

    Martha Anne Stroup Barner passed on from this world on Friday, Sept. 2
    0, 2013, at the Williamsport Home.

    She was born in Williamsport on Oct. 25, 1934. She graduated from Will
    iamsport High School in 1952. She married Dale Vernon Barner Sr. on Oc
    t. 24, 1953. The couple lived in Rauchtown until moving to Capitol Hei
    ghts, Md., in 1963, when he began employment with the Federal Highwa
    y Administration. She then began a career in banking with the First Na
    tional Bank of Southern Maryland.

    Mrs. Barner was active in Southern Maryland politics, having served a
    s president of the Prince George's County Board of Trade, member of th
    e Prince George's County Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving on th
    e Board of Trustees of Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

    Mrs. Barner retired in June 1995, as a vice-president of M & T Bank Co
    poration in Upper Marlboro, Md., having served with them for 35 years
    . After residing in North Beach, Md., for a period of time, she return
    ed to Williamsport in August, 2012. She most recently resided with he
    daughter and son-in-law at 193 Boyles Drive in Cogan Station.

    She is pre-deceased by her husband, Dale Vernon Barner Sr.; her parent
    s, Harry Donald and Ruth Fry Stroup; sister, Doris June Stroup; and br
    other, Jack Donald Stroup.

    She is survived by her son Dale Vernon Barner Jr. and his wife Debora
    h Rorrer Barner, of Williamsport; grandson, Dale Vernon Barner, III, K
    annapolis, N.C.; and great-granddaughter, Liberty Barner. She is als
    o survived by her daughter, Ruth Evelyn Barner Boyles and husband Denn
    is William Boyles, of Cogan Station.

    Grandchildren and great-grandchildren by Ruth and Dennis include Jenni
    fer Boyles Kellner, husband Joseph Anthony Kellner Jr., and children J
    oseph, Anthony, Olivia and Jaimie, of North Beach, Md.; Christopher De
