Charles E. Barner, 81, of 13 Oldt Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the Williamsport Home, following a lengthy illness. He and his wife, the former Loretta J. Keeler, were married for over 50 years. Charles was in the U.S. Navy for four years and retired from the U.S. Army. He served during WW II and the Korean wars. Following his military service he retired in 1992 from the former Lutheran Brotherhood after 16 years. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown, a 32nd degree mason and a 50-year member of Labelle Vallee Lodge 232 F. & A.M. Jersey Shore and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Elks and enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.
Born July 29, 1922, in Oval, he was the son of Warren and Margaret Wentzel Barner. Surviving besides his wife are daughters, Margaret Ann Camp of Williamsport and Melissa J. Sanders of Hatfield; sisters, Ann Wright of Montoursville, Bertha Hawkins of South Williamsport and June Devine of Williamsport and four grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by a brother, Dale and a sister, Linda Merkel.Funeral services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., at the church, at the corner of Middle Road and Route 880 with Rev. Dennis E. Crissman, officiating. Interment will be at the Oval Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave. A masonic service will be provided by Ivy Lodge #397 at 7:30 p.m.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests donations be made to the church, 3242 Middle Road, Jersey Shore, Lycoming Co, PA 17740.

Loretta’s husband, Charles E. Barner, died on Oct. 1, 2003.
Loretta was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Rauchtown and Whit
e Deer Golf Club. She owned and operated Loretta’s Beauty Salon for ov
er thirty years.
Born in Jersey Shore on April 20, 1930, she was the daughter of Ralp
h and Margaret Keeler.

Surviving are daughters, Margaret Ann Camp of Topsham, ME and Meliss
a Jane Barner of Hatfield; grandchildren, Rebecca (Geoffrey) Cozine o
f State College, Jeffrey Camp Jr. of South Thomaston, ME, Ashley Sande
s of Lansdale and Brandon Sanders of Hatfield, a sister-in-law, Ann W
ight of Allenwood, a son-in-law Jeffrey Camp Sr. of Linden and numero

A Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, 3242 Midd
le Road Jersey Shore, with Vicar Aaron Werner officiating. Burial wil
l be in Oval Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Fri
day at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.
