- Julia J. Barner, 86, of Mifflintown, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Brookline Manor.
Born March 9, 1939, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin "Andy" and Virginia (Hosler) Burd. Her husband, Stanley C. Barner, II, whom she married September 15, 1962, passed away on May 25, 2014.
She is survived by two children, Stanley C. Barner, III of Mifflintown and his companion, Shirley, one daughter, Jill R. Hildebrand and husband, Brian, of Plevna, Montana, one granddaughter, Brandy Barner Barto and husband, Marshall, and her sister-in-law, Helen Burd Shoop.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews on both the Burd and Barner sides of the family, as well as close friends who lifted her up in prayer, took her to doctor appointments, and stood by her side throughout her illness.
Julia was the last surviving sibling of her immediate family and was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald Burd (wife, Nancy), Robert Burd, and Steven Burd.
She graduated from Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown in 1958.
Julia and her husband owned and operated the Juniata Auto Washette, Mifflintown, for 20 years. After the sale of the carwash, Julia worked for the Area Agency on Aging and then as an aide at Locust Grove Retirement Village.
She enjoyed visiting with friends and going for "coffee" with friends at Stop 35.
Her memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Casey Hostler officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
