- Obituary for Susan Kay Barner
Susan Kay Barner, 71, resided at William Penn Nursing home in Lewistown PA, and formerly of New Bloomfield PA, passed away peacefully at Geisinger Hospital Danville on Tuesday October 1st. She was born November 2nd, 1952, to Harold P. Heckman and Dorothy M (Baker) Heckman.
Susan (AKA Mammy) was very loved by everyone who knew her. She loved cooking, baking, the beach and camping with friends and family. Most of all she loved cooking the meals for holidays where she always made too much food. Susan enjoyed serving her church and the community. She was the biggest supporter of her beloved grandchildren Shawna and JD by attending all their school and sports functions.
In 2014 Susan had a massive stroke and was left paralyzed changing her life drastically. She was able to live in Ickesburg for several years before her needs expanded. Susan and her husband Ronald then moved to William Penn Nursing Home in Lewistown.
Susan never gave up on family and friends, still showing love and compassion from her bedside. She will be missed mostly by her husband, Ronald P Barner (of 54 years) and her 3 daughters, Billie Deiter (Steve Deiter) of Newport, Deanne Shelley (Patrick Shelley, daughter Elizabeth) of Harrisburg, Laura Nace (David Nace) of Elliottsburg. Also, the 2 grandchildren she spoiled endlessly, Shawna Swartz (Dylan Swartz) of Elliottsburg and Jonathan (JD) Weller of New Buffalo. She was also blessed with 2 great grandchildren by Shawna and Dylan Swartz who she loved dearly, Keegan and Tucker Swartz. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Dorthy Heckman. She is still survived by all her siblings, brother Thomas P. Heckman (Lisa Heckman) of Lewistown, sister Carole Mckain (David Mckain) of Latrobe, sister Pamela Bedlyon of Arkansas, sister Ellen Hartsock (John Hartsock) of Lewistown and many nieces and nephews, along with her caretakers.
She will always be our sunshine, even when skies are gray. A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith United Church 6968 Veterans Way, Ickesburg PA on Sunday October 6th, starting at 3:00pm with a service to follow. Everyone is invited to stay for a meal following the service.
