- Walter G. "Walt" Barner, 76, husband of Peggy L. "Peg" (Miller) Barner, of 127 Barner Lane, Loganton, PA passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville, PA.
Born in Schenectady, New York on November 7, 1948, he was the son of the late Grant R. and Bertha (Lyman) Barner.
Walt was a 1967 graduate of the former Sugar Valley High School, Loganton, PA along with earning a Associate's degree in Farm Equipment and Sales Supply.
Peg and Walt were wed on June 1, 1974 and shared over 51 years of marriage together.
Walt was a member of the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, Eastville, PA.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War and continued to serve and retire as a Senior Master Sergeant.
For many years he worked in law enforcement in the Capitol Police and later as a prison guard.
He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Also, he was a life member of the VFW and the American Legion and was a 32* Mason.
Along with his wife he is survived by two stepsons, Michael Hinds and Shane Hinds both of Loganton, brothers Jerry Barner (Nancy) of Loganton and Dale Barner (Chris) of Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons, a niece Melina Engler of Lock Haven and a special friend Valerie Vonada of Loganton, PA.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepmother Doris, a sister Susan Smith and brothers Kenneth Barner, Frank Barner, David Barner and Mark Barner.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, 2305 E. Winter Rd., Loganton, PA with Pastor Bill Mauck and Rev. Ken Geisewite officiating. A viewing will be held in the church on Monday from 10 – 11 AM. Final Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery following the service.
