Bernice C. Barner

Bernice C. Barner, 90, of Jersey Shore, Pa., passed away on Saturday
, Sept. 26, 2009 at the Jersey Shore Hospital. She was the wife of th
e late Gardner S. Barner with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Bernice was born on Feb. 13, 1919 in Jersey Shore, and was the daughte
of the late Harry and Claire Forcey Shields.
Bernice was a homemaker and a member for over 30 years of the Mountai
View Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She taught Sunday school
, and was a member of the Women's Church Group.
Bernice is survived by four sons, David G. Barner of Jersey Shore; Rev
. John M. Barner (Joanne) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Rev. Robert D. B
arner (Sheryl) of Northumberland, Pa.; Joseph P. Barner (Rachel) of Ho
pkinsville, Ky.; a brother, Dale Shields of Jersey Shore; three sister
s, Phyllis A. Eggler of Woolrich, Pa.; Doris Barner of Eastville, Pa.
; Olive Miller of Woolrich, Pa.; and by ten grandchildren and seven gr
eat grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, July 9, 2001; a daughter in-law, Jo
ye Barner, Oct. 2 2008; a daughter, Shirley Miller, May 26, 1972; tw
o sisters, Evelyn Clark and Velda Mims; and by three brothers, Donald
, Ralph and Richard Shields.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bernice's Life Celebratio
from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at the Rearick-Carpenter Fu
eral Home, Ltd. 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, Pa. and from 10 t
o 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Mountain View Christian Missiona
y Alliance Church, 1515 Cemetery St., Jersey Shore. Funeral service
s will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the church with the Rev. Rober
