Thomas W. Barner

Thomas W. Barner, 49, formerly of Niskayuna, passed away Sunday, May 2
0, 2001 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD after a courageou
s battle with cancer. He was born in Colonie and was a 1969 graduate o
f Colonie Central High School. Tom had served in the U.S. Air Force fr
om 1969 to 1973 before graduating from Middlesex College. An entrepren
eur, Tom had helped in the development of several start up Companies
. He was instrumental in the creation and growth of OpenServive Inc. o
f Albany. He was the president and served as chief operating officer o
f the company. Tom was the past chief financial officer of the Denta
l Hygienist Association of NYS.
He was a past scoutmaster of Cub Scout Troop 77. He was a coach and fo
mer treasurer of the Village Youth Soccer Club and a communicant of t
he Church of St. Clare
Tom is the beloved husband of 27 years to Mary Thompson Barner. He i
s the devoted father of Scott T. Barner of Salem, VA and Christyn (Bar
er) Lewandowski and her husband, Barry of Lorton, VA. He is the prou
d Grandpa of Barry T. and Rylan Lewandowski. He is the beloved son o
f John H. and Mary L. Barner of Colonie. He is the brother of John C
. Barner of Edmond, OK, Annmarie Barner Perechinsky of Loudonville, Ka
l Barner of Marsellus, NY, Margaret Barner of Liverpool, NY and Donn
a Barner of Round Lake. He is the brother-in-law of Edward and Margare
t Pellegrino, Walter and Kathleen Urban, Richard and Hyatt Thompson, R
aymond Perechinsky, Patricia Barner and Mary Benedict. He is also surv
ived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 8:15 at New Comer-Canno
Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie (Rt. 155 - south o
f Central Avenue). A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:
00 at the Church of St. Clare. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 t
o 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Saratoga Nation
al Cemetery.
