Remembering Brenda Barner: 'a strong, funny and beautiful woman Brenda Jaye Barner (Lindquist) retired in 2004 from AFSCME after 31 years of service in a job that her family said she loved.
Barner, 65, of Liverpool, died Oct. 7."To her family and friends, Brenda was a hero, a positive role model, who fought her nine-year battle with willpower and strength of mind," read her obituary.
She was a 1967 graduate of Newport High School where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen. She enjoyed riding horses on her family's farm. She enjoyed vacations at Black Lake, N.Y., with her family and friends; making special treats and trinkets; crafting; reading; sewing quilts and Halloween costumes and playing games.
Surviving are her husband, Mark Terry Lindquist; a son, Christopher Falcone and his wife, Colleen; granddaughters, Emma and Claire Falcone; sisters and their spouses, Bonnie and Ken Hultzapple and Billie and Bruce Jones; nieces, Dori Bornstein, Kelly and Kevin Seiler, and Amada and Shannon Mummert; and nephews Andrew Leach and Alex and Sanna Bornstein.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2014, Brenda Jaye Barner (Lindquist) of Liverpool, PA died at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. With grace, determination, and her unwavering humor, Brenda bravely succumbed to cancer. To her family and friends, Brenda was a hero, a positive role model, who fought her nine-year battle with willpower and strength of mind. Brenda was 65 years old.
The daughter of the late Eleanor Lucille (Hepner) Barner and the late William Irvin Barner, Brenda was born in Harrisburg and raised in Liverpool, Pennsylvania. Brenda was the middle child of three sisters. She loved to ride horses on her family's farm and was often the sister playing pranks on her siblings. Brenda graduated from Newport High School in 1967. She was a vibrant cheerleader and homecoming queen. Brenda was friendly, outgoing, and very photogenic, as her sisters recall her having the most pictures in the NHS 1967 yearbook.
Brenda spent her career with AFSCME and retired in 2004 from the State Employees Union after thirty-one years of dedicated service. Brenda loved her job as an office manager and maintained life-long friendships with her coworkers. Her spiritedness continued into her career, as she was always one to organize activities or play jokes on her colleagues.
Brenda's greatest achievement in life was her relationships with family members and friends who felt like family. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, son and daughter-in-law, granddaughters, sisters, and nieces and nephews. Each summer, Brenda enjoyed vacationing on Black Lake, New York, with a group of her closest friends and brothers and sisters-in-law. Brenda loved celebrating the holidays with her large extended family and especially enjoyed making special treats and trinkets for the children of all generations. Brenda was an avid crafter and her many Christmas gifts to family and friends are treasured keepsakes. Brenda had many hobbies. She especially enjoyed reading, sewing quilts, Halloween costumes and playing games.
In addition to her supportive husband, Mark Terry Lindquist, Brenda is survived by loving son, Christopher Falcone and wife Colleen; precious granddaughters Emma and Claire Falcone; sisters Bonnie and Ken Hultzapple and Billie and Bruce Jones; nieces Dori Bornstein, Kelly and Kevin Seiler, and Amanda and Shannon Mummert; nephews Andrew Leach and Alex and Sanna Bornstein, along with many, dear great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Brenda's life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd , 1000 North Front Street, Liverpool, PA on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 3:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 2:00 PM.
