Mrs. Ida M. Mingle

Postmistress: Mrs. Ida Mingle, the popular postmistress of Birmingham
, Pa., was raised on a farm at Nittany, Centre Co, PA and attended wha
t was then called the Franklin School, at Nittany. Joseph H. Barner w
as her father, who died in 1909, aged seventy-six years. His wife pre
ceded him in death in 1907, aged sixty-seven years; she was of Englis
h descent. Mrs. Ida M. Mingle was married to Blair Mingle; they cam
e to Birmingham in 1898. Mr. Mingle was employed by the Penna. R.R. a
s watchman. He was killed on the railroad in 1913. In 1915, she wa
s appointed Postmistress of Birmingham, Huntingdon Co, Pa., and has be
en an efficient Postmistress. She is a member of the Presbyterian Chu
ch; is interested in the Ladies' Missionary Society and the Monthly B
ible Class. She has two brothers: William E., of Howard, Pa.; Harry A.
, who is an engineer on the P.R.R., at Pittsburgh, Pa.; was in Admira
l Schley's squadron, in the U.S. Navy, on Battleship Minneapolis. Sch

squadron played an important part in the Spanish-American War. She ha
s one sister, Nannie, married to Burdine Butler, of Howard, Pa. She h
as one son, Harold E., at home, and one daughter, Mae, married to Pau
l Little, of Tyrone. The postoffice is beautifully located near the e
trance of the seminary, which makes it very convenient for the studen
ts and the citizens of the community.
