Dora A. Barner-Brennan
SELINSGROVE - Dora A. Barner-Brennan, 87, a former resident of RR1 Mou
t Pleasant Mills and most recently of Selinsgrove, entered into etern
al rest at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, in the Manor at Penn Luthe
an Village, where she had lived since July 6, 2002.
She was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Perry Twp, Snyder Co, a daughter of th
e late George M. and Hattie K. (Sanders) Markle. On July 6, 1949, sh
e was united in marriage to Samuel A. Barner, who preceded her on Nov
. 1, 1961. She then married Fred E. Brennan on Dec. 29, 1973. He prece
ded her on Dec. 4, 1993.
Mrs. Brennan and her first husband, Samuel, owned and operated the Ali
e General Store, RR1 Mount Pleasant Mills, for 16 years from 1953 t
o 1969. She continued operating the store after Sam's passing.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant M
ills.
Dora loved to travel and just plain old socializing with her many frie
ds.
Surviving are three nephews, Larry E. Holtzapple of Liverpool, Gregor
y Byers and wife Beth of Winfield and Keith Byers and wife Susan of Mi
llerstown; two nieces, Cheryl Wright and husband Robert of Middletow
and Bonnie Gibbs and husband John of Crozet, Va.; five great-nephews
, Brock Allen Holtzapple, Kyle Wright, Shawn and Ryan Gibbs and Chad B
yers; two great-nieces, Nichole Renee Holtzapple and Melissa Jackson
; two great-great-nephews, Zachary and Luke Jackson; two sisters-in-la
w, Mildred P. Byers and husband George and Evelyn Wetzler, all of Mill
erstown; many cousins; four stepchildren, Steve Simon of Norristown, M
arie Myers of York, Rodger Brennan of Middleburg and Deborah Wagner o
f Las Vegas; eight stepgrandchildren, Rodger S. Hatchard, Paula Basset
t, Frank Seeley, Grant Seeley, Rodger C. Brennan, Amanda Henry, Debr
a Brennan and Crystal Myers; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael
, Brandon, Christina, Christopher, Kimberley, Michael, Samantha, Kimbe
ly, Dylan, Dustin, Michael Jr. and Dakota.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Brennan was preceded by one daughter
, Susan Janice Barner, at birth on Nov. 4, 1952; one sister, Ida Mae H
oltzapple on May 5, 2002; one stepgrandchild, Michael Mann; and one st
epgreat-grandchild, Jonathan Clawson, in April 1991.
Family, friends and others gathered on Thursday at the George P. Garma
Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, where the funeral was held at 1
1 a.m. with the Rev. Leon G. Scholl officiating.
Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, RR2 Mount Pleasant Mills.
