James "Wimpy" M. Williamson, 80, of Park Avenue, Woolrich, went to hi
s heavenly home on June 10, 2012. He died at the Williamsport Regiona
l Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer.
Born July 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Bruce R. Williamson Sr
. and Hazel Stevenson Williamson.
He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1951. Prior to graduating
, he was a lightweight wrestler and a member of the football team. A
s a young man, he also enjoyed many other sports including tennis, ski
ing and ice skating at the Woolrich Reservoir.
He was a member of the PA National Guards of Lock Haven and was a U.S
. Army Korean War veteran, during which time he served his country sta
te-side.
He was married to the former Metta Bickel and together they shared mor
e than 60 years of marriage. They were both members of the Woolrich Co
mmunity Church.
He worked at Woolrich Woolen Mills for 19 years. He was then employe
d by Branch Motor Express in Milton, and later Hammermill Paper in Loc
k Haven. He retired from Hammermill in 1996. After retirement, he drov
e school bus for Keystone Central School District from 1997-2010.
Wimp and Metta enjoyed raising their four children: Randy Williamson o
f Lewisburg, Rodney Williamson of Woolrich, Mala (John) Moore of Logan
ton and Dana (Tim) Boardman of Woolrich. They also had the pleasure o
f watching eight grandsons, four granddaughters and twelve great-grand
children grow.
He is survived by a brother, Bruce (Eileen) Williamson Jr. of Ozark, A
la.; and two sisters, Jean Henry (Charles Welshans) of Clio, Ala., an
d Nancy Karichner (Robert Walker) of Woolrich; as well as several niec
es, nephews and cousins. In additional to his parents, he was precede
d in death by a sister, Helen "Betty" Eggler, one niece and one nephew
.
He will be remembered as a very caring husband, father and "Guy" to hi
s grandchildren, as well as a good provider and very outgoing individu
al to friends and acquaintances.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the He
lt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with memorial service
s to follow. Pastor Cathy Dawes will be officiating. In lieu of flower
s, contributions can be made to the Susquehanna Health Cancer Center
