Torrence 'Barney' A. Barner October 9, 1932 - January 2, 2010 Torrenc
e "Barney" A. Barner, 77, of rural Spring Mills, lost his courageous a
d well-fought battle with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at his re
sidence. He was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Lock Haven, a son of the late Fo
ster and Lucille Baney Barner. On Aug. 9, 1986, he married Vicky Breon
, who survives at home. Barney was a graduate of Susquehanna Twp Hig
h School and served in the U. S. Air Force, serving three tours in Vie
t Nam and one tour in Korea. He retired from the Air Force after 22 ye
ars of service. After his retirement, he worked as an over-the-road tr
uck driver, worked for Ingram Fuels, and later as a third shift mainte
ance person at the Bryce Jordan Center. He also directed traffic at g
ate one at the Grange Fair for many years. He attended New Hope Luther
an Church, Spring Mills, and was a member of the Gregg Twp Fire Compan
y. An avid bowler, he was a member of two bowling leagues and a bowlin
g association. He also enjoyed hunting, and was a loyal Pittsburgh Ste
elers fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters
, Linda Harris and Eleanor Yocum, both of Harrisburg, and Beatrice Bar
er, of Felton, Del.; three sons, John Barner, of Felton, Del., Larr
y Barner of Camden, Del., and Joshua Barner, of rural Spring Mills an
d his friend Jess; a sister, Eleanor Kramer; many grandchildren; numer
ous great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Shawn Breon, who was like a so
to him, and his wife, Jennifer, both of whom assisted with his car
e during his last illness. In addition to his parents, he was precede
d in death by a son William; a sister Phyllis; and a brother Bob. Frie
ds will be received from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009, at New Ho
pe Lutheran Church, 119 Cobblestone Court, Spring Mills. The funeral w
ill be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the church, with the R
ev. Nathan Pile officiating. Burial with military honors will be in In
diantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at a time to be announced du
ing the funeral service and on the funeral home's web site. In lieu o
f flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to New Hope Luthera
