Rea M. Barner McCarney, 90, of 155 Riverview Drive, Lock Haven, died o
Sept. 6, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Debra Gentile.
She was born March 10, 1921 in Pine City, N.Y., a daughter of the lat
e Sheridan and Emma Mae Slater Herman.
On Feb. 22, 1955 she married Park F.M. Barner who died on Feb. 19, 199
0.
Rea was a homemaker who had also been a cook at the former Clintonia
Motel and Restaurant which was on Hogan Boulevard in Mill Hall.
She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchild
en.
Rea was an excellent cook and had been a social member of American Leg
ion Post 133, Lock Haven.
Surviving are two sons, William M. (Gloria) Barner of Lamar and Davi
d M. (Carol) Vanderpool of Freetown, Ind.; two daughters, Debra (Kenne
th) Gentile of Lock Haven and Tina Walters of Zion; a foster daughter
, Sylvia Bierwiler of Elmira, N.Y.; two sisters, Georgetta Stroud an
d Cora (Gene) Silverstrim, both of Towanda; 26 grandchildren, 44 grea
t grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles E. Barner in 2003 and P
ark E.M. Barner Jr. in 2006, and two sisters, Thelma White and Doroth
y Mackentire.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at the Dea
K. Wetzler Jr. Funeral Home, 320 Main St., Mill Hall. Visitation wil
l be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemet
ery, #028, Mill Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Patient Activities Fund at M
anorCare, Jersey Shore, or the Cancer Treatment Center, Geisinger Medi
cal Center, Danville, Mahoning Twp, Montour Co, PA, through the funera
l home.
