Harold C. Yost, Jr.
Harold (Bud) Charles Yost, Jr., 76, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at his home. Born in Lock Haven on March 9, 1943 he was the son of Harold (Bud) Charles Yost Sr. and Elva Hakin Yost.
Bud graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1960. Bud was an outstanding athlete lettering in football, track and basketball. He was selected to the 1960 Big 33 Football team. He was a member of the undefeated 1960 Lock Haven Bobcat football team. He set records in the javelin and shotput. He received the most valuable participant award for the Sixth Annual Juniata Relays. He set the 100 yard dash record at the Lock Haven High School.
Bud was elated when Rip Engle and Joe Paterno came to his home and offered Bud a scholarship to Penn State University. Bud was the limbo champion at the Delta Upsiln Fraternity. Bud would say he majored in football, food, and beverages at Penn State. Bud played in two bowl games the Gator Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. He was very proud that he had the opportunity to shake President John F. Kennedy’s hand at the Sugar Bowl.
After college, Bud worked with his father selling and building Ridge Pike Homes. In 1972 they sold 52 homes after the flood. He worked for Nestlerode Construction and was also a sub contractor. He was the owner and manager of the Eagle Hotel. Bud was a member of City Council from 1992-1995. He was mayor of Lock Haven 1996 -1999. He was a Clinton County Commissioner 2000 - 2007.
Bud loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He love spending time with his family, son Buddy, Teresa, and Delani. He enjoyed being with his side kick and beloved dog Sheba.
He was a lifetime member of the Castanea Fire Company, Elks, NRA, North American Hunting Club, Penn State Letterman Club.
He was preceded in death by his father: Harold Charles Yost Sr., his mother; Elva Hakin Yost, his brother; Billy Lee Yost.
He is survived by a son Harold (Buddy) Yost III, and his wife Teresa; a granddaughter; Delani; a sister; Bonnie Sue Yost Probst; a brother-in-law Samuel W. Probst; nephews, Samuel Grant Probst (Donna), Benson Wade Probst and Troy Allan Probst (Bethany); great nieces, Allison R. Probst, Alesia Ross Parks (Jake); great nephews, Cy Probst, Kelvin Probst, Watt Probst; a great great nephew Corbin Parks, and a great great niece, Sage Parks.
Funeral services for Harold (Bud) Charles Yost, Jr. will be held Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven. Officiating will be Pastor Mitch Smith of Christ Community Church, State College.
Family and friends will be received in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Service, LLC on Thursday, July 11, 2019, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Harold’s name to the Clinton County SPCA, 33 Mill Hill Road, Lock Haven, Pa. 17745.
