, 80, of Pine Haven Apts, Lock Haven, Clinton Co, PAssed away Wednesda
y, December 12, 2007, at the Lock Haven Hospital ECU. She had been i
failing health for several years, and had been receiving care from S
outhern Care Hospice for the last two and a half years. Born in Orvist
on November 6, 1927, Vonda was the only child of the late Ira Leo an
d Beulah G. (Toots) Packer Condo. She was a member of the Bellefonte H
igh School graduating class of 1945. She met Robert R. (Bob) McGhee o
f Lock Haven, and married him on September 11, 1946. They had two chil
dren, the late Jeffery M. McGhee and Darlia K. Conway. When Bob return
ed to active duty with the Army, she enjoyed traveling and living in T
ennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Hanau, Germany and Texas. She returne
d to the Bellefonte area in 1960 when her husband was transferred to B
angkok, Thailand, where he subsequently died on Feb. 13, 1962. Vonda g
aduated as an LPN from Centre Community Hospital Nursing School in 19
63, where she worked until 1965. She then moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fl
a. to work as a private duty nurse for terminally ill patients. She re
turned to Lock Haven in 1973 to help care for her mother, and also wor
ked as an LPN at Susque-View Nursing Home. She met her best friend, he
companion of over 20 years, Howard N. Hardy, on New Year's Eve, Dece
mber 31, 1975. They formed a business partnership, V&H Enterprises, ba
sed on their hobbies and interests. They traveled to flea markets an
d fairs, where he sold watches, guns, knives and military memorabilia
, and she demonstrated and sold Pretty Punch Embroidery. Vonda becam
e the Northeast Region distributor for Pretty Punch of Florida, and he
ld seminars to each others one of her many hobbies. When Hardy retire
d from International Paper Co. in 1989, they sold their business and b
egan wintering in Sebring, Fla. until Hardy's death on January 26, 199
5. In September 1996, Vonda moved to The Hampton's in Auburndale, Fla.
, where she resided year-round until her failing health caused her t
o return to Lock Haven in May. Vonda's hobbies were punch embroidery
, knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, bingo, dancing and trav
eling. She enjoyed taking cruises with Hardy and her friends to the Ca
ibbean Islands, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. She is survived by her dau
ghter, Darlla K. Conway of Lock Haven; Hardy's six sons, Samuel D. Har
dy and Gary L. Hardy of Lock Haven, Jay P. Hardy of Pleasant Gap, W. T
imothy Hardy of Milesburg, Andrew M. Hardy of West Fargo, N.D. and Pas
tor Howard N. Hardy, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 19 grandchildren an
d 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffer
y M. McGhee of Bellefonte, and by a grandson. In lieu of flowers, memo
ial donations may be made to Southern care Hospice, care of the funer
al home. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at 10 a.
m. at Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven with the Re
v. Randy Perry officiating. Interment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery
. Friends will be received Thursday evening, 7 to 9 p.m.
