SEVERNA PARK, MD Fern Rebecca (Himmelberger) Barner, 92, died Thursday
, March 9, 2012, at the Severna Park Genesis retirement home in Severn
a Park, Md. One of nine children of Curtis and Stella Himmelberger o
f Strausstown, Fern was born March 14, 1919, and was the wife of Joh
Price Barner. Married for 55 years, Fern and John were the operator
s of several restaurants in Lebanon Co, including the Palmyra Coffee S
hop, the Green Terrace in Annville and the Quentin Riding Club. Follow
ing her husband's death in 1995, Fern lived with daughter, Anne Elizab
eth Veach and her husband, John Veach in Severna Park, enjoying the co
mpany of her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and helpin
g in the kitchen of the nearby Woods Presbyterian Church. In additio
to daughter Anne, she is survived by sister, Faye Mutschler of Pin
e Grove, brother, Leon Himmelberger of Reading, and son, John Price Ba
er, Jr. of Spring City, Pa. According to her wishes, her ashes wil
l be interred next to those of her husband following a graveside cerem
ony at the Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Christ, located on ol
d Route #22 in Strausstown, on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. A lu
cheon will follow the ceremony at the Blue Mountain diner in Shartles
ville.

sstown died Friday January 5, 2001, at 6:45 p.m. in Reading Hospital
, where he had been a patient since Dec.20. His wife, Theresa I. (Ello
vich) Himmelberger, died in 1998. Born in Jefferson Twp, he was a so
of the late Curtis Sr. and Stella A. (Henne) Himmelberger. Himmelber
ger had been a self-employed vacuum cleaner salesman for 40 years. H
e was last employed as a cookware salesman for eight years, working un
til 1985. He was a member of Zion Blue Mountain United Church of Chris
t, Strausstown. Surviving is a son, Roger L., Strausstown: two brother
s, Leon, Reading, and Glenn W., Bernville; and four sisters: Elle (Him
melberger) Stambaugh and Mildred M. (Himmelberger) Potteiger, both o
f Strausstown; Fern R. (H! ! immelberger) Barner, Mount Gretna, Lebano
County; and Faye (Himmelberger) Mutschler, Pine Grove, Schuylkill Co
unty. There are also five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
. A son, Ronald, died in 1985. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. i
the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville. Burial will be in Strausstow
Cemetery, Upper Tulpehocken Twp

mas United Church of Christ, Bernville. She was a 1950 graduate of Ham
burg High S! ! chool. Himmelberger is also survived by a son, Darryl G
., and a daughter, Gretchen A. (Himmelberger) Foster, both of Bernvill
e. Other survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Heimel, Douglassville
, and Robert Heimel, Strausstown; and five sisters; Betty (Heimel)McCr
udy, York; Gladys (Heimel) Hill, Muhlenberg Twp; Patricia (Heimel) Die
trich, Robesonia; Donna (Heimel) Sweigert, Stevens, Lancaster County
; and Linda Heimel, Kempton. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Ser
vices will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernvi
lle. Burial will be in Strausstown Cemetery, Upper Tulpehocken Twp.

y C., Dennis A. and David A., all of Strausstown. Other survivors incl
ude two brothers, Leon Himmelberger, Reading and Glenn Himmelberger, B
ernville; and three sisters: Mildred (Himmelberger) Potteiger, Strauss
town; Fern (Himmelberger) Barner, Severna Park, Md; and Faye (Himmelbe
ger) Mutschler, Pine Grove, Schuylkill Co, Pa. There are also 11 gran
dchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 1 p
.m. in Zion (Blue Mountain) UCC. Burial will be private in Strausstow
Cemetery. The Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, is in charge of arra
gements.
