Charles Newton Welshans, 84, of Jersey Shore, passed on to our Lord Tu
esday, Feb. 4, 2014 at the Williamsport Home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1929 in Allenwood, the son of Byron S. and Oliv
e Mae (Miller) Welshans.
Charles was a U. S. Army veteran.
He was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church.
Charles retired from the Jersey Shore Steel.
He enjoyed traveling, gardening, candle making, doing pu?les and feedi
g his birds.
He is survived by nine children, Charles H. (Candy) Welshans, Steven L
. Welshans, Kay L. (Tony) Heggenstaller, Lori L. Guthrie, John P. (All
ison) Welshans, Diane L. (Charles) Apker, Judy A. Teeter, Byron Welsha
s, Lee E. (Stephanie) Welshans; 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchild
en; brothers, Ned Welshans of Fla., Jack Welshans, Dan Welshans bot
h of Jersey Shore; sisters, Mae Clements of Jersey Shore and Mary Jan
e Brewster of Woolrich; also his longtime companion, Ruth Carson.
He was predeceased by his wives Phyllis Fulkrod Welshans and Judy Tran
seau Welshans; a grandson, Steven L. Welshans, and two brothers.
Memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA or the American Cance
Society of Williamsport.
Relatives and friends are invited to Charles' Life Celebration servic
e Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 beginning with a visitation from noon unti
l 2 pm at the St. James Lutheran Church, 3242 Middle Rd. Jersey Shore.
Services will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Gary Shumway officiating with h
is son John Welshans assisting. Burial will be in the Limestone Cemete
y.
