A service for Dr. John L. Barner, a Sarasota resident who died March 2

will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church

Dr. John L. Barner, 92, formerly of Athens, died Wednesday, March 22
, 2000.
A native of Webster City, Iowa, Mr. Barner was a son of the late Georg
e Stewart and Romayne Hertzler Brenneman Barner and was the widower o
f Margaret Barner. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane W. Fo
ehand. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Athens. He recei
ved his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia an
d was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He had a private oncol
ogy and radiology practice in Athens from 1946-1972. He was a member o
f Keystone Chapter 1 Royal Arch, Commandary Knight Templars and Benevo
lent and Protective Order of Elk, all in Athens.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include a son, John L. Barner, Sarasota; two brothers, Georg
e Barner, Kennebunkport, Maine, and Richard Barner, Hunt, Texas; and t
hree grandchildren.
