- MIFFLIN - Thelma C. Hoover, 91, of the Locust Grove Retirement Villa
ge, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospita
l.
Born on April 29, 1920, in Liverpool, Perry Co, she was a daughter o
f the late Allen I. and Willamina (Barner) Klinger.
Mrs. Hoover was a 1938 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, a member o
f the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Liverpool and a member of the Laf
ayette Chapter 222, Order of the Eastern Star, Selinsgrove. She was al
so a very active member of the Juniata County Council of Republican Wo
men, where she served as secretary and ran for auditor of Juniata Coun
ty.
Before retiring in 1981, she worked doing legislative data processin
g for the PA Senate in Harrisburg. In earlier life, she was a cook a
t Susquehanna Elementary School, a department manager for Colonial Fai
in Shamokin Dam, and she owned and operated Thelma’s Hometown Restau
ant in Liverpool.
Thelma enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was a quintessential homemaker a
d baker, renowned for her baking skills.
Surviving are two sons, Michael A. Hoover and his wife Shirley, of McA
listerville, and Mark B. Hoover, of Selinsgrove; one sister, Theresa I
. Grove and her husband, John Jr., of York; one brother-in-law, Edwi
B. Wallace Jr., Leigh Acres, Fla.; one granddaughter, Tonia Bryner a
d her husband Richard, of McAlisterville; two step-grandchildren, Tin
a Zendt and her husband Craig, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Timothy St
uck and his wife Kim, of Thompsontown, and she leaves behind two great
-grandsons and four step-great-grandchildren.
One sister, Twila Wallace; one brother, Ronald Klinger, and a step-gre
at-grandson, Seth Zendt, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral H
omes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with Pastor Nicholas Smi
th and Pastor Gary Krabill officiating. There will be no viewing; howe
ver, family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funer
al home.
Burial will follow in St. Paul’s (Leininger’s) Cemetery, Mount Pleasan
t Mills.
