Mervin E. Goodling, 95, of Mifflintown, entered into rest on Friday, J
uly 15, 2016, at his home. He was born on September 14, 1920, in Orien
tal, the son of the late Calvin Edwin and Mae S. (Frymoyer) Goodling.
On July 27, 1940, he married the former Geraldine Mae Kratzer, who pre
ceded him on May 21, 2011. Her passing broke a loving marital union o
f 70 years.
Mervin was a self-employed truck driver, operating in 38 states for 6
0 years and logging six million miles. Upon semi-retiring from truckin
g, he delivered cars for local dealerships, officially retiring at th
e age of 87.
He was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church for many years. Merv
in enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing in Canada. He loved going t
o area restaurants with family and friends. Most of all, he loved atte
ding sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta J. and Ri
chard Grovatt, of Southampton, N.J., and Colleen M. and Jerry Frontz
, of McAlisterville; four grandchildren, Heidi L. Krihak and husband
, Paul, Heather J. Xenakis and husband, Tom, Corey L. Frontz and wife
, Nicole, and Justin L. Frontz and wife, Katelyn; five great- grandchi
ldren, Jana, Will, Madison, Alexea, and Dakota; a sister, Ida Seig; th
ee sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Katie Goodling, Carol Kratze
and Kay and Elwood “Skip” Kratzer, along with many nieces and nephew
s.
Mervin was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Goodling, Allen Go
odling, and Ernie Goodling, and a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline a
d Albert Barner.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Monday, July 18, 2016
, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and again on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, from 1
0 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., all from th
e Richfield Life Ministries Church (formerly the Richfield Mennonite C
hurch), 167 Church St., Richfield. Officiating will be Pastor Aaron Be
er and Pastor Joel Snyder. Burial will be in the Richfield Union Cem
etery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Mer
vin to Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607. The Georg
e P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Rt. 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills has be
en entrusted with the arrangements.
