MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Allen Ray Goodling, 95, entered into rest on Fr
iday, May 10, 2013, at the SUN Home Hospice Center, Sunbury.
Allen was born on Feb. 7, 1918, in Oriental, Juniata Co, a son of th
e late Calvin E. and Villa Mae (Frymoyer) Goodling. On March 6, 1942
, he married the former Katie E. Arnold, who survives. His passing bre
aks a loving marital union of 71 years.
He attended Laurel Hill grammar schoolhouse, Richfield. Allen was an A
my veteran of World War II. Following his service to our country, h
e was employed with Shaffer’s Garage, near Aline and retired after 3
5 years of service from the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of Dressler’s Ridge United Methodist Church, Mount Ple
asant Mills, where he served as a trustee, treasurer, and chairman o
f the cemetery association. He and his wife were instrumental with th
e leadership roll to construct the fellowship building. Allen also wa
s a member of the Liverpool Fire Company and the Liverpool EMS.
He was an avid hunter, especially fox hunting, fishing in Canada, gard
ening, traveling and was able to visit 49 states. He cherished the tim
e he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandc
hildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his four children an
d their spouses, Charles “Giff” and Donna Arnold, of Selinsgrove, Anna
mae and Ralph Kerstetter, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Nancy and Darvin Pr
ice, of McAlisterville, and Sandra and Larry Kerstetter, of Millerstow
; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Todd M. and Carolyn Arnold
, Steven and Robin Kerstetter, Shari and Todd Dressler, Jeffrey and Ca
ey Inch, Anita and Michael Schrader, Anna Marie and Kevin Sassaman, B
ian and Pamela Kerstetter, and Susan and Joseph Jones; 22 great-grand
children, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Seig, of Gol
dsboro; one brother, Mervin Goodling, of Mifflintown, and nieces and n
ephews.
Allen was preceded by two brothers, Lee Goodling and Ernest Goodling
; and one sister, Pauline Barner.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesda
y, with the family present beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the funer
al service at 11 at Dressler’s Ridge United Methodist Church, 4180 Dre
ssler Ridge Road, Mount Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be Pastor And
ew A. Bucke and sharing the eulogy will be Pastor Jerry Miller. Buria
l with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Victory Pos
t 25, Selinsgrove and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will be m
ade in the adjoining church cemetery.
