David Stanley Swartz
David Stanley Swartz, 67, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefull
y after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on Thursday morning, A
ugust 10, 2017 at his home while surrounded by his family. Born Septem
ber 26, 1949 in Lewisburg, PA, he was a son of the late M. Stanley an
d A. Miriam Ferster Swartz. Dave served honorably with the US Air Forc
e during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Element
ary Education from Houghton College and later attained his Master’s De
gree in Education from Shippensburg University. Mr. Swartz taught fift
h grade at Stevens Elementary his entire thirty-two year career with t
he Chambersburg Area School District, serving as head teacher of the s
chool his last eighteen years. He was an active member of the Chambers
burg First Church of God where he sang in the choir, played baritone i
the orchestra, and volunteered serving funeral meals. He also operat
ed the camcorder at Penn Hall one Sunday of each month. He was a membe
of The Gideons International for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Lyter Swartz, tw
o children - Matthew Swartz of Chambersburg and Angie Cales (husband J
osh) of Hagerstown and his grandson Gavin Cales. He is also survived b
y three brothers - Daniel Swartz (wife Patricia), Philip Swartz (wif
e Carol), and Stephen Swartz, all of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survi
ved by six nieces and nephews - Ryan, Jenna, Kristen, Jessica (husban
d Stuart), Justin (wife May), and Kendall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2017 a
t Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersbur
g, PA. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment with military h
onors will be in Richfield Community Cemetery, Richfield, PA. The fami
ly will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Thomas L. Geisel F
uneral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersbur
g, PA, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
