Richard “Dick” Tyson
VETERAN
Richard “Dick” Tyson, 89, died April 4, 2007 at Indian River Medical C
enter in Vero Beach, Fla. Goodness and mercy have followed him all th
e days of his life and he will now dwell in the house of the Lord fore
ver.
He was born in Lock Haven on April 21, 1917 and moved to Vero Beach la
st year after enjoying 23 years of retirement in Wellington, Fla.
He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his adoring family
, his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to fix anything, and his f
aithful support of Penn State and Army football and basketball.
He retired in 1983 after 35 years as a manager for Amerigas in Elizabe
thtown, Ky. and Franklin, Tenn. He was a member of the Disabled Americ
an Veterans.
A distinguished World War II Army veteran and a member of the heralde
d Fifth Armored Division, “The Victory Division”, he commaned a Sherma
Tank through the valleys, hedgerows and “forests of death”. He feare
d no evil.
He was awarded the Silver Star for Valor during action at the Battle o
f the Bulge in Hurtgen Forest, and the Bronze Star for Heroism for act
ion in a forced reconnaissance as some of the first U.S. troops to cro
ss the Rhine River into Germany. He earned five battle stars and the P
urple Heart twice.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Tyson, of Vero Beach
, Fla., his son, Richard F. (Gail) Tyson, of Roswell, Ga., and his dau
ghter, Carole A. (Cmdr. James) Denmark, of Vero Beach, and one grandso
, David Tyson Denmark, of Vero Beach.

iate your kind actions during the past six weeks.

Co, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of Mr. Tyson.
A small Celebration of Life will be held at Strunk Funeral Home in Ver
o Beach at 11 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2007 with Rev. John McDivitt, Fir
st Church of God, Vero Beach, Fla. officiating.
