4, a United States Marine Corporal, perished on January 26, 2005, in t
he line of duty due to a helicopter crash in the country of Iraq. Jame
s was born on February 3, 1980, in the town of Roseburg, Oregon, (Doug
las County), to Darlene and Garry Moore. He graduated from Roseburg Hi
gh School in 1999. James joined the United States Marine Corps in Dece
mber of 2001. He attained the rank of Corporal on December 1, 2004. Hi
s military experiences include being stationed in the Marine Corps Rec
uit Depot, San Diego, California; the School of Infantry, Camp Pendle
ton, California; and the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe, Hawaii. James a
lso traveled to Okinawa, Japan, Thailand, andcompleted training excurs
ions in Kuwait. In September of 2004, James was ordered to Iraq wher
e he served in the Infantry as a Rifleman until his death. In his mili
tary career, James received the following honors and awards: Combat Ac
tion Ribbon; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal 2nd Award; Sea Serv
ice Deployment Ribbons 2nd Award; National Defense Service Medal; Rifl
e Expert 2nd Award; and Pistol Sharpshooter. James was assigned to th
e 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit
, 1st Marine Division. James came from a long line of family members w
ho served their country in the military. His great-grandfather (mother
's side), Oscar Lake, served in the Army and participated in WWI; hi
s grandfather (mother's side), Robert Lake, served in the Air Force; h
is grandfather (father's side), J. Alvin Moore, served in the Army an
d participated in the Korean War; his father, Garry Moore, served in t
he Army; his uncle, Robert Moore served in the Navy and participated i
WWII; his uncle, Dean Moore served in the Army and participated in W
WI; his uncle, Oscar Moore served in the Army and participated in th
e Korean War; and his step-brother, Philip Meisner served in the Marin
es. James was born and raised in Roseburg. He attended a portion of hi
s junior high school experience in Victor, Montana. During his junio
year of high school, he lived in Long Beach, Washington and attende
d Ilwaco High School. After graduating from Roseburg High School, Jame
s spent time living in Roseburg; State College, Pennsylvania; as wel
l as Corvallis, Oregon, working as a supervisor for the Office Max Cor
poration in all three locations. James was an avid outdoorsman, cheris
hing hunting and fishing. He enjoyed camping, shooting, gun collecting
, outdoor recreational activities, and spending time with his family a
d friends. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines, James wa
s looking forward to possible careers in the law enforcement field o
as a hunting and fishing guide. James is survived by his mother, Dar
lene Moore; his father, Garry Moore; his grandparents, Robert and Cleo
e (Tillie) Lake (mother's side), and Sue-Lane Moore (father's side)
; his sister and her husband, Melissa and Mark Andrews; his nieces, Ma
lia and Maia Andrews, ages 5 and 9 1/2 months; his father's companion
, Suzanne Henson-Moore; his step-brothers, Jason and Philip Meisner; a
d close personal family friends, Mickey and Jamie Stewart. James is a
lso survived by numerous cousins and other relatives, and many friends
. A memorial service will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds o
Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 1 p.m. Karen Goirigolzarri, principa
l of Roseburg High School, will officiate. Entombment will be in the R
oseburg Veterans Memorial Cemetery during a private ceremony for relat
ives only at an unannounced time. Relatives and friends are welcome a
t the Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home, located at 965 W. Harvard Ave
. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. for visitat
ion with the family. In lieu flowers, memorial funds have been establi
shed in the name of the James Lee Moore Scholarship Foundation. The Fo
undation is being established to educationally support families and ch
ildren who are disenfranchised due to the casualties of war. Donation

f Darlene Moore, 475 Clover Lane, Roseburg, OR 97470. The family woul
