Viola Byers, 84 of Liverpool, entered into rest on Monday morning, Jun
e 10, 2013 at the Harrisburg Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jo
hn W. Byers, who preceded her on January 20, 2013. Viola was born on A
ugust 2, 1928 in Liverpool, a daughter of the late Randall and Verna (
Barner) Earnest. She was a graduate of Liverpool High School. Viola re
tired from Kocher's IGA, Millersburg, where she was a talented cake de
corator, and was known for her beautiful wedding cakes. She was previo
usly employed at Eileen Hope Dress Factory, Liverpool, she also worke
d as a domestic for several families, and assisted her husband with th
e family farm.
Viola was an active lifetime member of St. John (Barner's) Lutheran Ch
urch, Liverpool, and assisted with the annual Apple Butter Boil. She w
as also a member of the Perry Valley Grange #1804, Inc., Millerstown a
d the Liverpool EMS and Fire Company. Viola was skilled in crocheting
. During the fall season Viola enjoyed attending the Perry County Fai
and took great pleasure in her grandchildren showing their animals a
d taking trips to Delaware and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Edgar and Lin
da Byers of Millerstown; Lloyd and Sue Byers of Liverpool, and Beth an
d Bob Sowers of Millerstown; four grandchildren; Amy (Skip) Syester, K
ista (Jake) Pontius, Scott (Hannah) Byers, and Katelyn Sowers; five g
eat grandchildren; Ben,Tirzah, Naomi, Isaiah, and Selah, and nieces a
d nephews. Viola was preceded by a brother Glenn Deckard.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Saturday, June 15, 20
13 from 6:00-8:00 PM with the Perry Valley Grange memorial service a
t 8:00 PM at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc. 606 N. Front St.
, Liverpool, and again on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 12 Noon until th
e time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM from St. John (Barner's) Luth
eran Church, 5 Barners Church Road, Liverpool. Officiating will be he
pastor Rev. Peter H. Kuebler. Burial will be made in the adjoining c
hurch cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial gifts may be made in l

Viola Byers, 84, of Liverpool died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Harrisbur
g Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1928 in Liverpool to Randall and Verna (Barner) E
arnest.
She retired from Kocher’s IGA, Millersburg, where she was a talented c
ake decorator and was known for her beautiful wedding cakes, and previ
ously employed at Eileen Hope Dress Factory, Liverpool, worked as a do

arm; a graduate of Liverpool High School; a lifetime member of St. Joh
(Barner’s) Lutheran Church, Liverpool, and helped with the annual Ap
ple Butter Boil, a member of Perry Valley Grange 1804, Millerstown, a
d Liverpool Fire Company and EMS; and skilled in crocheting and enjoy
ed attending the Perry County Fair and seeing her grandchildren showin
g animals and taking trips to Delaware.
She was the widow of John W. Byers, who died Jan. 20, 2013.
Surviving are three children, Edgar Byers of Millerstown, Lloyd of Liv
erpool and Beth Sowers of Millerstown; four grandchildren, Amy Syester
, Krista Pontius, Scott Byers and Katelyn Sowers; five great-grandchil
dren, Ben, Tirzah, Naomi, Isaiah and Selah; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Deckard.
Services were held June 16 in her church with the Rev. Peter Kuebler o
fficiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.
