    VETERAN

    Steven M. Ohnmeiss, 66, of Montoursville, passed away at his residenc
    e Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

    He was born in Williamsport, Oct. 30, 1950, a son of Ray and Nellie Wr
    ight Ohnmeiss. He was married to the former Penny Wood April 26, 1980
    . Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corps and continued on to Officer candi
    date school. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Na
    vy submarine service as a supply officer. He attained the rank of Lt
    . Commander. He was assigned to the USS Tulibee and USS Greenling wit
    h a tour of Iceland where he and his wife enjoyed the culture and natu
    e of the country. Upon retiring from the Navy, he returned to Montour
    sville and became a case worker for the Department of Public Assistanc
    e.

    He actively attended Calvary Baptist Church where he was an usher an
    d taught Vacation Bible School. He loved being Poppa. He loved his fam
    ily and friends. He may not have been an outgoing social butterfly, bu
    t he was someone you could count on. He was an avid reader, master o
    f useful trivia and facts, Sudoku puzzle player and an in-home jeopard
    y genius. Over the years he gladly donated his time to his church, th
    e James V. Brown Library and Volunteers of America.

    Steve’s survivors include his wife, Penny; one daughter, Melissa J. Cu
    mberland (Keith), of North Ridgeville, Ohio; one granddaughter, Jole
    e M. Cumberland and his two granddogs, Atticus and Cooper; one sister
    , Sherry Pfirman, of South Williamsport; and many nieces, nephews, aun
    ts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Terry; an
    d a sister, Sandra.

    Steve’s Life Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 201
    7, at the Maneval Allen Redmond Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Willi
    amsport, with Rev. Peter C. Wilson officiating. Friends may call at th
    e funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. and again Saturday from 10-11 a.m
    . Interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Calvary Ba
    ptist Church, 42 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or the Jame
    s V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
