Herman R. Shirk, 86, of Selinsgrove, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at hi
s residence.

He was the husband of G. Marie (Gelnett) Shirk.

A viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the George P
. Garman Funeral Home Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool. Funeral servi
ces 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

HERMAN R. SHIRK
Herman R. Shirk, 86, of Selinsgrove died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at home
.

He was born May 23, 1919 in Richfield (Cherry Hill) to the late Edga
S. and Clare E. (Graybill) Shirk.

He was a 1937 graduate of Fayette High School, McAlisterville, and the
employed by L. Shellenberger Shirt Factory in Richfield. He was an A
my veteran of World II, serving three years in an infantry training c
enter and then with Third Army Headquarters under Gen. George Patton
. He was in Pilsen, Germany in August 1945 when the Japanese surrender
ed and marched in the victory parade with the Russians in Praque, Czec
hoslovakia.

He was employed as a manager of Weldon Pajama Company in Muncy in Janu
ary 1946 and later promoted to general manager of all sewing for the W
illiamsport, Lopez, Dushore, Canton and Muncy factories. In 1960 he bo
ught Hane Manufacturing Company in Shamokin Dam and worked there unti
l it closed. In 1961 he opened The Old Trail Fabric Center in the sam
e building.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, G. Marie Gelnett Shirk; a son, Ker
y A., and a daughter, Sherry Donnelly, both of Selinsgrove; three gra
dchildren, Brian P. Donnelly of State College, Kelly Van Horn of Free
burg and Eric Donnelly of Selinsgrove; a sister, Florence Lyter of Sel
insgrove; and a sister-in-law, Carrie Shirk of Liverpool.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy P., who died June 28
, 1918, Raymond E., who died July 7, 1942, and H. Blaine, who died Aug
. 12, 2001.

Services were held Feb. 16 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with th
e Rev. Michael Stine Lynn Schmoyer officiating. Burial, with militar
y honors, was in Barners Church Cemetery, Liverpool.

Herman married Gertrude Marie GELNETT in Nov 1947. Gertrude (daughter of Milton G. GELNETT and Gertrude Pearl BARNER) was born on 24 Mar 1923 in Liverpool, Perry Co, PA; died on 22 Jul 2009 in Lewisburg, Union Co, PA; was buried in Barners Lutheran Church Cemetery - Liverpool.
