    A memorial service and a celebration of life for retired Maj. Elwood M
    . Barner, 92, of 3E Todd Circle, Carlisle, will be held Friday at 11 a
    .m. in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle.
    He died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000 at the Sarah Todd Nursing Home.
    Born Jan. 13, 1908, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late John W
    esley and Nellie E. Barner and the widower of Elsie A. Barner.
    Mr. Barner graduated from Williamsport High School and Penn State Univ
    ersity, where he was a member of the Triangle Fraternity. He served i
    the U.S. Army during World War II and after regular service becam
    e a major in the active reserve.
    Employed with the former Beetem Lumber Co. as an architectural enginee
    , he helped with the development of Meetinghouse Heights in Carlisle.
    Mr. Barner was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle
    , where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, served on the churc
    h council and was a member of church committees; National Sojourners
    , Carlisle Chapter 130; Cumberland Star Lodge 197, F&AM; Carlisle Elk
    s Lodge 578; AARP Carlisle Chapter 3378, which he helped organize; MOR
    A Club of Carlisle; and Carlisle NARFE 373.
    Surviving are his wife, Gladys B. Barner of Carlisle; a daughter, Lind
    a B. Brenneman of Carlisle; two sisters, Martha B. Young of Mechanicsb
    urg and Rhea Hutchinson of Montoursville; six grandchildren; and 10 gr
    eat grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Harpe.
    The Rev. William C. Jacobs and the Rev. George W. Yoder will officiat
    e at services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, W
    est Pennsboro Twp, at the convenience of the family.
    Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Martin Luther Room L
    ounge. Cremation Society of PA, Harrisburg, is in charge of arrangemen
    ts.

    Linda was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church wh
    ere she was a member of the church council for a number of years and s
    erved as secretary for part of that time. She sang with the church cho
    ir for several years and served on several church committees. Linda wa
    s chairman of the church alter guild and helped with communion setup
    . She was a graduate of Carlisle High School class of 1956 and a gradu
    ate of Shippensburg University class of 1960 where she earned a B.S. D
    egree in Business Administration.

    During Linda's high school years, she worked at F. W. Woolworth and So
    s and taught shorthand for the Carlisle Adult Education Program. Afte
    college, she worked for C. H. Masland and Sons and later for the U.S
    . Army Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks. Linda was a me
    mber of the Yellow Breeches Chapter, American Business Women's Associa
    tion, Carlisle and NARFE Chapter "373", Carlisle. Linda also volunteer
    ed at the Carlisle Hospital/Regional Medical Center. She will be misse
    d by her church and her family that she loved dearly.

    Linda is survived by her loving husband, Orr N. "Mike" Brenneman of Ca
    lisle and three sons, Kail of San Diego, CA, Keith and wife Cheryl o
    f Mechanicsburg, PA and Kevin and wife Kimberly of Metuchen, NJ; fou
    grandsons, Cooper and Jack of Mechanicsburg; and Keaton and Kieran o
    f Metuchen, NJ. Linda is also survived by a niece, Cindy Bloser; two n
    ephews, Scott and Rich Harpe; and also a dear friend of 50 some years
    , Sandra Maloney. She was predeceased by her sister Carol.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:00 A
    M in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. High St., Carlisle
    , PA 17013 with the Reverand Lisa Leber officiating. Interment will b
    e private at the convenience of the family in the Mt. Holly Springs Ce
    metery. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Cre
    matory, Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
