Emma M. Barner Gill, 290 N. Perry Highway, Coolspring Twp, died at 7:1
5 p.m. Saturday (8-5-00) in United Community Hospital, Pine Twp, afte
an extended illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Gill was born July 31, 1910, in Mercer to Clyde and Mary Huey Bar
er.

She was employed for 23 years in the cafeteria of Mercer High School
, and previously worked for Brandy Springs Park pool, Mercer.

Mrs. Gill was a 50-year member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer.

She also belonged to Mercer Business and Professional Women and Merce
Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was a lifetime member of Lad
ies of the Moose, Mercer.

Her husband, Clifford B. Gill, whom she married March 19, 1931, died M
ay 15, 1970.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy Louise) Rudolph, Merce
; a sister, Evelyn Stull, Hubbard; two grandchildren; and two great-g
andchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charle
s and Maurice Barner, and two sisters, Alma Barner Moose and Mary Eliz
abeth "Dolly" Wardman.

Clair E. Barner, 66, died Monday at his residence.

Mr. Barner was born July 29, 1938 in Charleston, Pa., a son of Howar
d and Elizabeth Coleman Barner.

He retired in 2004 from the Hearn Paper Co. as a salesman after 10 yea
s. He had a karaoke business and volunteered his services to local or
ganizations. He was a graduate of Hickory High School, a member of th
e First United Methodist Church, was past president and member of th
e Girard Lions Club, the Army Navy Garrison Post No. 422, the DeWitt M
cConnell American Legion Post No. 213 and the Girard Eagles. Mr. Barne
was also an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara K. Wright, whom he marr
ied Aug. 2, 1958; daughters, Sharla K. (Mike) DeSimone and Melissa J
. (Jeffrey) Barnett, both of Girard; a sister, Betty Dummett of Mercer
, Pa.; brothers, Richard (Audrey) Barner of Palm Bay, Fla., Harry (Sal
ley) Barner of Mercer, Pa., Thomas (Betsy) Barner of Hermitage, Pa., a
d David (Kay) Barner of Denver; and grandchildren, Jaime Emery, Abb
y Emery, Tyler Emery and Mattie and Justin Barnett.

There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Blackstone Fun
eral Home, where there will be visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Interment will be at Kerr Cemetery.

Richard was preceded in death by his stepmother Elizabeth Coleman Barn

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Audrey Joy (Wheeling) Ba
er; brothers Harry (Sally) Barner of Mercer, PA, Thomas (Betsy) Barn
er of Hermitage, PA and David (Kay) Barner of Arvada, CO; two childre
Brenda (Alex) Chaika of Zephyrhills, FL and Bryan (Karen) Barner o

Beloved grandfather to eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildr
en; many loved nieces and nephews.

Richard attended Hermitage High School and was employed by General Ele
ctric for 30 years, before retiring to Palm Bay, FL in 1998. He wa
s a 32nd degree mason of Lodge 347 in Girard, PA. He served as Mayor o
f Fairview, PA from 1993-1997. Richard was a member of Eastminister Pr
esbyterian church in Indialantic, FL.

He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, church activities and spending time w
ith family and friends.

Harry C. Barner, 88, of Mercer, passed away at AHN- Grove City on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 1:28 AM.

Harry was born in Templeton, PA on October 12, 1932 to Howard Maurice and Dorothy (Fravel) Barner. His mother died when he was three years old and he was raised by his father and step-mother, Elizabeth Coleman Barner.

Harry attended Mercer Schools until his enlistment in the US Army during the Korean conflict. In the 1960’s, he was a member of the Mercer Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Mercer Police Department. In the 1980’s, Harry attended classes and received his GED, after which he was asked to speak at various classes in the Mercer County school districts about the importance of receiving a proper education. Harry was active in Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer, serving in many capacities, including Elder and Pulpit Committee.

After many years in the auto industry, Harry retired from Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., in October of 1997. However, he continued to work for the funeral home on a part-time basis until the time of his death.

Harry loved spending time with his family, hearing about the escapades of his two great grandchildren, playing with his grand dog, Baron, and “coaching” his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He had the gift of gab and never met a person with whom he couldn’t strike up a conversation.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, step-mother; sister: Betty (Barner) Dummett; three brothers: Richard, Clair and Thomas Barner; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ralph and Elizabeth Smith; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry is survived by his wife, Sarah (Smith) Barner, whom he married on October 23, 1954, at home; two daughters: Kimberly (Michael) Kaelin in Sewickley, PA and Pamela Barner at home; two granddaughters: Stephanie (Thomas) Law, Rochester, PA and Kristen (Sam) West, Newton Falls, OH; and two great grandchildren: Adelyn Belle Law and Albert Allen Law. When Adelyn heard that her Grandpa Harry died, she chose to walk in her Memorial Day parade in his memory. He is also survived by his brother: David (Kathryn), Arvada, CO as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who he considered family.

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Holly Renee Barner, 55, of 51 Port Watson St., Cortla
d, N.Y., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, after contracting th
e H1N1 Flu virus while hospitalized with a Crohn’s flair up.

Born Dec. 25, 1958, in Holyoke, Mass., she was a daughter of the lat
e John R. and Mary Starbird Barner. She grew up in the Saegertown an
d Meadville areas and graduated from Saegertown High School in 1976. S
he moved with her sister to Cortland in 1990 to be with family, and wa
s the former co-owner of Beyond Balloons in Cortland and a former empl
oyee of Systems East. She was active with and treasurer of the Tenan
t Association where she was living. She was an avid pool player, love
d her cats and enjoyed her family.

Just 18 years old when diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, the treatment
s led to numerous other diseases and conditions. She endured so much m
ore than any one person should have to, but kept going ... with nurtur
ing strength, love and forgiveness. While so frail, she is and alway
s will be one of the strongest people we know. The family are trying t
o embrace the fact that she is free of the body that caused her so muc
h anguish; free of the embarrassment, the constant management, worry a
d stress and, above all, free of the pain. Please look to the heaven
s with a warm heart; smile and know she is in a much better place.

Holly is survived by her sister, Jodi Barner-Nageotte (Steve Johnson
) of Cortland; brother, John Barner of Tennessee; nephews, Dustin (Ash
ley) Barner of Tennessee and Michael Nageotte stationed in Korea; niec
es, Ashley and Lindsey Nageotte of Cortland; sister-in-law, Debra Barn
er; soul mate friend, Eileen Jamison; special sister, Jeanne Day; spec
ial brother, Victor Torres; several aunts, cousins and extended famil
y members.

A celebration of her life will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the com
munity of her residence, 51 Port Watson St., Cortland.
