Valeria Barner
February 10, 2008 Valeria Van Valkenburgh Barner, 94, of Fayetteville
, died Sunday. Born in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, she attended Syracus
e University and Parsons School of Design. Valeria was a founding memb
er of the Fayetteville Senior Center, Fay-etteville-Manlius Meals on W
heels and FISH. An active volunteer, she received the Community Servic
e Award in 1985 from the Metropolitan Council on Aging. She volunteere
d at the Fayetteville Free Library, the Everson Museum, and the Spanis
h Action League. She also was an interpreter. She was active in the Un
ited Church of Fayetteville. Valeria worked as an aircraft mechanic a
t Westover Field, MA during WWII and was a ground observer for the Civ
il Defense during the Korean War. She was predeceased by her husband
, Donald P. Barner in 2000. Survivors: her son and daughter-in-law, La
wrence and Linda Barner of Fayetteville; her daughter and son-in-law
, Katherine and Wilfred Gully of Boulder, CO; and three grandchildren
, Anthony L. Barner, Nora Gully and Nicholas Gully. Calling hours wil
